ST. LOUIS – St. Louis police arrested a man Thursday suspected of a fatal drive-by shooting last month in the city’s North Hampton neighborhood.
According to a St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department spokesperson, officers responded to a shooting at South Kingshighway Boulevard and Connecticut Street around 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 23.
Officers arrived to find the shooting victim, Darrion Reed, being treated by EMS outside of his vehicle. Witnesses told police the Reed had just left the QT gas station on S. Kingshighway and Fyler Avenue moments before the shooting.
Reed was taken to the hospital, where he later died on Aug. 29. He was 24.
The St. Louis Medical Examiner determined Reed had died from a gunshot wound to his neck in a drive-by shooting. The crime was recorded on surveillance video.
Police said homicide detectives eventually identified the killer as Kenneth Dotson, 25, and took him into custody on Sept. 11.
The St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office charged Dotson with first-degree murder and armed criminal action. Online court records do not indicate when Dotson will appear before a judge.
