I'm sure it will end a lot of fraud in the program, but I am also sure there will be a few being denied who qualify for it.

I've literally seen hundred cases of people who do not need it or do not deserve it and many instances of fraud or misuse . I worked at a liquor store while going back to school and at least once/week someone would come in wanting to trade $20 worth of food stamps for ten bucks worth of booze.   Texas then went to the Lone Star card and that stopped a lot of that last sort of thing, although I'm sure the abusers have found a way around it.

I was at a convenience store a yr. or so ago and a woman in front of me was getting a lot of "crap" food; candy, chips, soda, etc. and she paid for it all with a Lone Star card. She left her receipt and I saw that she had over $1700 in "credit" left on it, and it was very close to the first of the month. If you have that much money left on your card, then something's fishy. One of the clerks happened to know her and said she claimed all her grandchildren on it, even though they didn't live full time with her and were also being claimed by their mothers for additional benefits.

If we could manage to cut out just half the waste and fraud with the Social Security system, we could really help those in need. I personally know (of) three people who are collecting disability yet work for cash on the side.
