He sure was lucky, konane.   Could have been a horrible outcome. Hopefully the cat will learn from that. I've had some great mousers, but my last cat didn't have the instinct to hunt them...or maybe it was influenced by me and was just lazy. After finding out he wasn't even the least bit of a hunter and getting mice in the house I put out a few snap traps and he'd smell the food on them and set them off. He never learned. I started using glue traps then one night I was woke up by a horrible mewing and found out he had seen a mouse stuck in one of the traps and decided to investigate and got the thing stuck to his face and he was freaking out big time . I guess that was traumatic enough for him to leave them alone after that.

I love cats and dogs, loads of animals, but just like humans, they all have different levels of intelligence and common sense.   I've seen cats get stuck while trying to squeeze through the slats in the back of a chair instead of just hopping down from the front.

My sister once dated a guy who was drunk and wondered if he could fit his head in the space at the top of the steering wheel.   Well, he got it through the space, but couldn't get it out. He said he kept driving and trying to yank his head out and never thought to stop the car and do it. That part is funny, but he was pretty stupid for driving under the influence to begin with.   I loved the guy, he had a heart of gold, but am glad she eventually married someone else.   My family needed an influx of higher IQ DNA, not lower. <grin>
