Not too subtle! I used to purchase a lot of subliminal tapes (both audio and video) hoping for pain relief and other positive results. One tape for my VCR showed beautiful scenery and played soft music. The messages flashing behind were supposed to be saying "I feel great. I am relaxed. I will sleep well tonight, etc., etc." I always wondered if they were really saying "Buy more tapes. You need to spend $500 more this month on tapes or you will die!" LOL
