Three men were shot by Kyle Rittenhouse during protests in Kenosha, Wisconsin, in August 2020: Joseph Rosenbaum, Anthony Huber, and Gaige Grosskreutz. All three men had criminal records, though details were limited during the Rittenhouse trial.
Summaries of their known criminal histories are as follows:
Joseph Rosenbaum: He was convicted of sexual conduct with a minor in Arizona in 2002 and served about 15 years in prison. Court documents noted accusations of sexually abusing five boys, to which he pleaded guilty to two counts. At the time of his death, he also faced pending charges in Wisconsin for alleged domestic abuse and jumping bail.
Anthony Huber: He pleaded guilty in 2013 to felony counts of strangulation/suffocation and false imprisonment. Court records also indicate a 2018 disorderly conduct conviction as a domestic abuse repeater. A criminal complaint referenced during Rittenhouse's defense mentioned Huber allegedly pulling a knife on family and choking his brother. He had served a prison sentence in 2012 for choking his brother and spent time in jail, released on probation.
Gaige Grosskreutz: He has a criminal record reportedly including drunk driving, burglary, and a domestic incident. During the Rittenhouse trial, he confirmed a prior conviction. Wisconsin court records show a guilty plea in 2016 to a misdemeanor charge of being armed while intoxicated. Days before the shootings, he was arrested for "prowling" while filming police. His record also includes charges from 2013 for property damage and a 2012 felony burglary charge. In 2010, he was arrested for allegedly hitting his grandmother during a dispute.
