Keep all receipts after using Visa gift cards

Published:

Wednesday afternoon I purchased a 100 dollar debit Visa gift card  specifically to renew my Virgin Mobile broadband2go internet device which cost 40 bucks a month but haven't used it yet.

I used the card to purchase 17 bucks worth of fuel at an Exxon gas station on Friday morning, but I found later that night, that someone at the station charged me 70 bucks  for that 17 dollars worth of fuel because my card was declined during a purchase later that night.

Now on Saturday, today, I'll have to go back to the store and show him the transaction history in hopes of proving to him that somehow either his machine or someone at the store charged me an extra 53 bucks.

I did print a receipt at the pump, but I threw it away after checking the amount and making sure the full debit card number wasn't visible. Only a few numbers with a bunch of xxxxxx's. I should've saved the receipt. But I did print out the account history with the time and date from the Visa website, so I can show the merchant that there is no way I purchased 70 dollars worth of product at his establishment.

Wish me luck....lol

The store should come up $53 over. Pre-paid cards present it's own special issues so call the 800 number on the card and tell them what happened because chances are the store clerks will not know what to do especally if you didn't keep the box it came in with the upc code or the receipt. They can't refund without the box because those cards have their own individual codes. All of them don't have the same upc.

Good Luck Pacman.

Yeah, definitely call the card phone number to see exactly what charges show up on it.

Well, thanx everyone, but I got my money back today. A friend at work told me of a new law into effect where the credit card companies are now holding a specified amount when purchasing GAS ONLY. I guess they've been burned so often that they do this to ensure they get their money, and once they do, they redeposit the balance back onto your card. I just wish they would inform folks about this, and not have to find out second hand.
