The scam that changed the lottery forever
By Kate Northrop
MARTINSVILLE, NJ — It was the hottest scandal and largest invasion of trust in lottery history, something that never should have happened, was predicted by Lottery Post or years, and absolutely could have been prevented.
Many lottery players think of a now-retired multi-state game when they hear the name "Hot Lotto," but most lottery connoisseurs will remember the long-running drama associated with it, one that changed the lottery industry forever.
Today, Lottery Post released its latest video on how lottery rigging mastermind Eddie Tipton cracked the code and stole millions of dollars from the lottery.
WATCH: The Biggest Lottery Scandal in History
One man managed to not only rig a drawing to claim the prize money all for himself, but rob every player across the United States a fair shot at winning millions of dollars — but how did he do it? We compiled years' worth of knowledge and pieced together events that took place over nearly decade to bring you the answer.
To hear the infamous story of Eddie Tipton, visit Lottery Post's official YouTube channel. Be sure to tell us in the comments what you think of the tale, and perhaps share what you had originally believed when the case was unfolding in real time — we can't wait to hear your thoughts.

Great post. Book was very insightful too!
* Haven't been following the Tipton story, but wasn't he & his accomplices supposed to pay restitution? Last l heard him & he's posse were still hanging onto millions.
* Seems like the wheels of justice have ground to a halt when it comes to this band of brothers.
Kate Northrop What a breath of fresh air. Nice elocution
Second time around still great to watch.
LP folks enlighten me...I see some lotteries instead of calling it RNG (Rigged Now Games) have a new Acronym but for the life of me can't think of what it is. Trying to fool lottery players not cool.
The lottery officials who ignored Eddie when he tried to warn them about the flaw in the system, should have been fired. They could have shut things down and brought in a team of experts to fix the flaws. But they basically said "fix it yourself". He also should never have involved someone who was not family. His brother did not turn on him, but his so-called "friend" did. Even thou this guy was guilty as sin. The lottery officials not only failed to listen to Eddie, but they ignored warnings from Lottery Post. Eddie is not the ONLY guilty party here. Thanks Kate, for your great video.
I know this isn't the lottery but a few years ago an inside man rigged the pick six on breeders cup day. Seems like any flaw in the security and someone on the inside ready to exploit it.
This might be why no one (who works for the lottery) is allowed to play the game because they know too much. Heaven forbid that if you win the jackpot, only to have it void because a relative works for the commission...
I had tickets for that drawing. I was so confused why no one had claimed it throughout the year. I didn't get a fair shot to win. Its crazy to think maybe I could have won it. I dont play my states Lucky for Life game anymore after they switched to the RNG.
Well I have heard of RNG or "Rigged Numbers Game" systems also being referred to as CGN (Corruptly Generated Numbers) or CNG (Corrupt Number Generation) systems.
Was it either of those two you were trying to remember?
I think that he should have eaten less greasy food. Maybe it was the appetite that drove him.
Yes...thank you. RNG was not kind @ the fake Louisville, KY casino today either!
NOW the present day lottery scam is North Carolina (NCEL)...The "North Carolina Extortion Lottery". There is nothing "Education" about it anymore. All P3/P4 and Cash5 drawings are rigged with pre-determined and taped drawings....usually in their favor. Wish they would get busted by the Feds so we can have a REAL lottery in this state!
Their slogan should be: "15YRS OF SCAMMING THE PUBLIC AND STILL GOING STRONG!"
Kate, great video.
a small correction (minute 5:32). MUSL does NOT administers Mega Millions.
Well, that's just factually wrong. The lottery drawings in North Carolina are conducted with real ball drawings, and they are done in front of an auditor. You could probably go and view a drawing live if you asked.
To say they are "rigged" (like Eddie Tipton rigged drawings) you are saying that the lottery makes certain balls come out. And why would they risk going to jail just to make sure your particular numbers don't come out in Pick 3? That's ridiculous. The people supposedly "rigging" the lottery would have absolutely no incentive to risk going to jail for that. And we're talking about a real ball drawing here, which you'd somehow have to do without anyone finding out, which is nearly impossible.
The lottery is hard to win. But being hard to win does not mean it's rigged. It means you didn't pick the right numbers for a long time.
Spot on Todd, I totally agree.

Hi positano, you are absolutely right! Thank you for the catch.
To clarify, Mega Millions is not a MUSL game, rather it is a multi-state game that is overseen by a separate Mega Millions consortium of its 12 member lotteries. MUSL works with the Mega Millions consortium to cross-sell Powerball and Mega Millions tickets in states that were not members of one group or the other, or did not sell either games to begin with.
I said that that all along for the past 5 years. They make sure to hold the popular sets of numbers in favor of those that are not common.
Mega Millions consortium is now made of 10 lotteries. TX and NY left MM and joined MUSL consortium a few years ago (for some reasons, you can't be a member in both ....) 🤷♂️
If I knew my state lottery was rigging the drawings in order to only draw "unpopular" numbers, I would see that as a huge win, because all I would need to do was play unpopular numbers and I would win all the time. So if you truly believe that is what your lottery is doing, now you have your strategy that will make you win time after time.
Of the numbers drawn in North Carolina yesterday (463 midday, 948 evening, 264 double draw), which one(s) would you say are unpopular?
I have a 5-43 in my state. I have only won two 3/5 so far. That is a whopping 20 bucks. I spent all my winnings already. In the red big time.
I was getting perturbed at why my usual strategy was not winning more so I looked at the lotto odds calculator in SLAG. Its astronomical. The odds are almost 1 in a million. I am considering quitting. My system works best for 1 in 575,000 or less.
Or maybe I am just being impatient? I dont know. I have not desired to play the game in over a month. Even when I saw it had rolled to 1 million bucks.
I then decided to dabble in the pick 3, an "easy" game. I have won two box numbers so far for 80 bucks!!!
I am a little excited but it might be just beginners luck. But I have about 20 bucks left to try and hit again. But at least in the black. I see a potental upgrade to platinum in my future, once I get all my pick five ducks in a row.
I was a little perturbed though, and mind blown a little, when I noticed that the evening draws are real balls, but the midday
draws are computerized. Weird.
And yes I am a tad concerned about potential fraud, but I have decided to ride the lightning for a wee bit.
I mean look what Dominion allegedly did with its computerized voting machines, computer science can be used in nefarioius ways, not to mention EHA bat virus modifying science. and nobody has yet to be charged for those things. But lets see what comes out of Arizona and Fort Dietrich.
But getting back to lottery science...
I actually used deflate and found the best number was 957 in the last two years. So far I have missed it twice in the last month or so.
Have you tried to use deflate to filter your data for above performing numbers?
Would you like me to do that for you? I could find the best number for your pick 3, and help you time it if you like. Just PM me.
But putting Pick 3 in the same category with odds of 1 in a 1000, with the Cash 5 with odds of 1 in 962,598 is like comparing
apples to watermelons.
I am not saying either game cant be rigged. I dont know, I am not a based pillow merchant analyzying the PCAPS on the Dominion Servers.
But lumping Pick3 and Cash 5 together with a claim of rigging, when odds wise they are not even in the same galaxy, let alone the same universe is a little in my opinion, irresponsible.
. And as ruler of flat earth, I should know.
But if you got the PCAPS, then I stand corrected.
