Dad shares a ticket containing his favorite sentimental numbers

By Kate Northrop

NORWOOD, Mass. — A Massachusetts father and son claimed a combined $800,000 from a single Mass Cash drawing thanks to personal lottery numbers and an act of kindness.

A Massachusetts father and son each walked away with $700,000 and $100,000, respectively, after matching eight tickets in one Mass Cash lottery drawing.

Eugene Girard of Norwood plays "a combination of sentimental numbers" on a regular basis, the dad told the Massachusetts Lottery. Before the midday Mass Cash drawing on Friday, Oct. 24, he decided to play those numbers as usual.

He visited Pam's Market on Pleasant Street in Norwood and purchased eight identical tickets with the same five numbers: 3, 6, 10, 13, and 23. In his case, matching all five didn't just mean winning one set top prize of $100,000, it meant winning eight.

Before claiming all eight winning tickets, Eugene gave one of them to his son, Matthew. Before taxes, Eugene received a check for $700,000 while Matthew received a check for $100,000.

With the winnings, Eugene said he plans to buy a car, make home improvements, and contribute to his savings. Matthew also plans on purchasing a car, and he'll invest another portion of the prize.

This isn't the first time Eugene had luck with the lottery either. In September 2008, he won a $1 million prize on a "Billion Dollar Blockbuster" scratch-off ticket.

For selling the eight winning tickets, the retailer receives a total of $8,000 in bonuses.

The odds of matching all five numbers in Mass Cash are 1 in 324,632. A full list of odds and corresponding prizes can be viewed on the Prizes and Odds page.

Mass Cash drawings can be viewed online on the Lottery's official YouTube channel and Facebook page. Results are available on Lottery Post's Massachusetts Lottery Results page. Each play costs $1.

What a lucky Man!

Glad he took care of his Son.    To think a non-RNG game was so good to him.

This makes think that what happened in New York recently with the multiple PB million dollar winners maybe along the lines of what happened here.

A father/son playing "sentimental numbers" may have been involved with The NY PB drawing. I don't know if the winners in NY have come forward or not, but my gut says the players involved in it are related. G5

They were lucky alright.  South of their border we have the same game/odds.  Earlier this year multiple (3-4?) tickets won the game.  Instead of $100,000 for each ticket, they only received ~$66,000.
