Canada 6/49

Not a moment too soon to embark on lifetime trip

GRANDE CACHE, Canada — A Canadian husband and wife of 48 years are deciding where they want to go for their "delayed" honeymoon after winning $5 million (US$3.6 million) in Lotto 6/49.

48 years after saying "I do," one Alberta couple is finally going to embark on a dream honeymoon thanks to a $5 million Lotto 6/49 win.

Wanda and Slav Rosa of Grande Cache decided to purchase a Lotto 6/49 ticket for the Jan. 17 drawing while visiting Petro Canada on Shand Avenue in Grande Cache. Their play contained the numbers 10, 12, 15, 33, 34, and 45.

After the draw took place, they remembered to check their ticket at home, which prompted a colorful reaction.

"I just froze after scanning the ticket and started counting the zeroes," Wanda told Lotto Spot, the official app for the Western Canada Lottery. "After that, I said a bad word in Polish."

Slav had a much more subdued response: "Oh, this is nice!" he remarked.

For matching all six regular numbers in the Classic draw, they scooped the game's $5 million prize. The odds of matching the first six numbers are 1 in 13,983,816.

It didn't feel real to Wanda, who explained that they still did not tell anyone about their win prior to claiming their prize, not even one of their sons, who lived at home with them.

But their family will find out eventually, if they haven't already, since the couple plans on sharing some of the prize money with their loved ones and taking a trip to Europe to visit other family members.

"We got married 48 years ago," Slav said. "So, this is like a delayed honeymoon!"

Additionally, Wanda and Slav might use the winnings to purchase a new car. Whatever is left over will go into their savings.

"We've been saving all our lives for retirement," Wanda clarified. "So, this is extra!"

Lotto 6/49 drawings take place on Wednesday and Saturdays at 10:30 p.m. Eastern Time. Tickets cost $3 each. All winning numbers, odds, and prize amounts can be found on Lottery Post's Multi-Province Lottery Results page.

* .. then you get those players who say " not gonna play unless the jackpot is $800 million and above!" These folks seem content. 😊

If you are married for 48 years in NORTH AMERICA, you deserve $500m not $5m. Keep your fingers crossed. Congrats and enjoy.
