I don't like scratch-offs much because they are not systemable . I will try them once in a while just for fun. When a game first comes out I often try it then figuring they will pay more in the beginning to hook players. Sometimes I have even FOUND a winning ticket discarded on the ground! Scratch (a little too quickly), cuss, toss.. a few hours later.. pick up.. WINNER! Also.. suggestion: if you win something decent on a scratch-off, immediately buy yourself something you (or a loved one) nee... [ More ]

The star ledger claims the poor play a much greater percentage of their income in instant lottery games. How poor is a person who gambles $100.00 a day away and still has enough money to live on? Anyone with $700.00 bucks a week to play games of chance by any definition isn't a member of the poor group. Some people love to gamble;I do believe that poorer people tend to play the lottery, but I do agree that someone who can buy $700 bucks worth of tickets a week doesn't seem to fit in the po... [ More ]

It's a fact that people in lower incomes buy many more lottery tickets than rich people. This isn't anything new. Studies have been done for many years. I agree it's a choice, but the marketing techniques of state lotteries are very misleading. People who are stuck in meaningless jobs and see no way out except a windfall often get into the habit of buying more tickets than they can afford. The machines are everywhere and putting them where you get your groceries makes it even more difficult to... [ More ]

I can definately attest to scratch-offs being paper slot machines. Just like Pringles, once you pop, the fun don't stop (that is, until you're out of money). So I always try to leave the premises as soon as I buy a ticket. That way I don't get tempted to chase my losses.

John Dohanyos said he recently started buying instants by the book a package of scratch-offs encased in plastic, just as they are sold to retailers. That a book sells for $300 a pop is no deterrent. The 51-year-old Middlesex County bus driver said he buys a book maybe three, four times a week, a habit he splits with his girlfriend.A bus driver can afford twelve hundred dollars a week on scratch-offs? I need to fill out a job app soon - and get a new girlfriend

Stephen Sunny Big Guy Bernath buys a fistful of instant lottery tickets every day and takes his place on a wooden bench next to a garbage can in front of the Krauszer's R J Food Store in Perth Amboy. There, the heavyset 70-year-old man rubs each ticket with a finger, cusses at it, then tosses it in the trash.Rub, cuss, toss.Rub, cuss, toss.He has been known to do this for hours, filling the garbage can with his losers before going back into the store to try his luck again.
