I like Jack Whittaker. I dont think his story is over yet.

Like King Solomon in the Bible, we learn and wisdom is gained from lifes experiences. As King Solomon did when he wrote Eccelsiastes in the Bible, I think Jack will have some good insight to share with the rest of us about the persuit of Happiness.

If anyone believes Jack has lost $100,000,000, please stop playing any kind of lotteries/gambling and mail on a regular basis every dime you normally would play to me. I'll gladly take your money. I am certain a large chunk is gone, along with his wife, grand daugther, friends and church members, but he'll kill himself about 3 million before he is bancrupt.

I used to do that with the $1. bills when I was young, dumb and full of ............. Now that I am older I don't even want people knowing that I have a quarter. I carried a large sum of money on me once to work. I only did it because I needed to deposit it in the bank and didn't have time before I had to be in, so I was going to take it to the bank during my lunch break to deposit it. Once I read that if you are robbed, it's best to have some cash on you so the mugger doesn't get upset that you're broke or only have credit cards. I rarely carry a lot of cash. However, it's a good way to hide purchases or other transactions I suppose. I guess it's a person habit, but it's too easy to lose. At least a credit card is protected. It's also too easy to spend!

BTW, I would never roll in money. Yuck. It's so dirty and full of germs. So, if I hang around the bank everyday... [ More ]

I knew a guy that used to carry around a wad of $1 bills, wrapped in the only $100 bill this guy must have ever had. Dirt poor. He just wanted to 'look' like he was loaded. He figured it might get him a 'chick' one day. Whatever. This same fellow was a heavy drinker with a bowling problem. Had a good sense of humor though.

Jack didn't have the money just stolen. He had somebody take it and hide it so that he wouldn't have to pay the lawsuit. He wasn't nearly incensed enough for somebody who had all that money stolen. WOW he sure is a popular topic now isnt he. I think that the facination with JW will go on for as long as he keeps putting himself in that situation. I do too. If you go through his hometown and talk with folks there he is considered someone who kinda got what he had coming. His fame, etc, and donations to his church were good, his management of himself and his money rather suspect. A lot of folks I talked to felt sorry for him, which is ironic considering the cash he won, and his wealth prior to it.

I can't believe it...I remember when that lottery was 315 and i remember when he won...The thing is that i knew this was going to happen to him and that a construction company was involved too...What i didn't know was that it was in 2002...My question is, why carry 500,000 dollars in your car....This series of Unfortunate events gives the country a bad image...

As DoubleDown said, he advertsied - ok, for most people that's exactly right, but in criminal circles that advertising is perceived as asking for it.

A study done on street crime suggested carrying at least a $20 to throw on the ground for any assailant. In a lot of cases they'll take the $20 and run.

Regarding the bar situation, I agree that wasn't too bright as you stated, but it doesn't make him a terrible sinner who's going to burn in Hell either. Just a pitiful person with very bad judgment. If I remember right, he gave millions to at least two churches. One of the preachers was even interviewed on one of the lottery documentaries.

By the same token, no matter how charitable anyone is, anyone hanging out in strip clubs while it's known that they carry $500,000 cash in a piece of luggage they keep in the trunk of the car is not only not real bright, they're asking for it.

Repent? This man gave away more money than 100 of us will give in a lifetime. He even built a church. I forget how much he gave the clerk who sold him the ticket. Don't write about things unless you have all the facts. He has numerous problems and definitely needs a spiritual relationship with a Higher Power, but let's not go around judging people because they are media targets.

I feel for his wife the most. She didn't ask for any of this. Yes she now has (or had) millions to spend, but she's lost her granddaughter in effect she's lost her husband. But we can't say how stable their marriage was before he won the lottery.

I agree with you in the last two points.

I meant that he should have been more careful where he hanged out. People who have millions dollar can easily become target for those who want to look for a law sue. Deep inside I like Mr. Whittaker and I feel very bad about what happened with his granddaughter, not just that she died but everything leading up to it.
