I don't play the 10 player table games but if you're patient in the tourneys and sit and go's, it's easy to cash in most. Poker Stars has a nice free site too where players can qualify to play in real money tourneys. They had less of those $12,000 WSOP packages in 2008, but it was because of the online gambling bill.

They monitor the site well but even they can't prevent a team of players from discussing their hole cards by messenger or even by phone. There will always be cheaters in any for... [ More ]

I think you may be right, Captain.

Politicians have been trying to figure out a way to make money off the Internet for a while.

However, with the financial meltdown national security stuff going on, I think this would have to be part of a larger package to get any oxygen for the foreseeable future. There are a lot of people who will fight internet regulation (even though that leaves it open to the kind of stuff written about in the underlying article

I, too, saw the piece on 60 minutes and thought it was pretty amazing. I like the fact that players rooted it out. If you think Lotteries are fixed, I can't imagine going anywhere near one of those online gaming sites. There's absolutely no regulation or oversight.

I imagine that online gaming is going to be a hot topic in the next Congress.

I know that a lot of people believe the Lottery shouldn't be involved in any hard core games. I wonder if this kind of article would prompt them to reconsider...some state lotteries have been running video lottery for years.

I also wonder how many people know that a lot of the video gaming happening on Indian reservations is simply Bingo software with graphics to make it look like poker/whatever.

I don't even go to casinos anymore. They have video poker and slots. Why bother with those when they are so easily rigged? At least with the computer controlled wheel slots there are a fixed number of symbols and they cant make just anything pop up on the play line.

I was in a casino in Minnesota once and it was totally empty except for me and the person I went there with. I walked around and everything even the craps table was video...that explained it all.

Video this, Video that, fo... [ More ]

If there is a way to cheat, someone will try and when the game isn't transparent to the players, it's easier for a cheater to do his thing.

I saw the 60 minutes piece and was surprised that people would invest so much in a poker game that they couldn't see the dealer or the other players. I've always thought of the Internet poker player as players who just played for fun to sharpen their skills for a live game.

In the wild, wild west, when a poker player was caught cheating it was a capital offense, with the punishment quickly dispensed right across the card table. But today if you're caught cheating in the popular and lucrative world of Internet poker, you may get away scot-free.

At least that seems to be what is happening in the biggest scandal in the history of online gambling. A small group of people managed to cheat players out of more than $20 million.

And it would have gone undetected if i... [ More ]
