People who want anonymity aren't being hoarders, they're being cautious. Charity doesn't work if it's done under pressure. It only has value when the person chooses what and who to give the money to. Privacy doesn't equal greed. But it does equal better control over the winnings and a less likely ability to squander them.

Most people who win the lottery want to continue living a normal life after the lottery. Being anonymous is the best way to make it possible.

They can talk all they want. When I win I'm wearing a mask because I live in Illinois. No one other than the Kansas State lottery and their family and friends know who these people are so they can live peace.

You missed the point and obviously did not read any of the posts. What is not fair is having some states that allow you to be anonymous and others that don't. This is stupid and not a level playing field. When I win I don't care who knows, but I am not exactly going to advertise it either. But give me the same option any other state.

Some of the posters here screaming annonymous is no fair! make me laugh. Much like those who are for a big estate tax (then change their tune when they come into money), their opinion would immediately be different if they won any lottery money.

Yeah I advocatre remaining anonymous. Just do a search on these forums, anonymous and see what you do and don't find. Try Abraham Shakespeare. He won a jackpot and is no longer with us because of a greed ball .

You assume the person is not sharing at all . You don't know that but it sounds like you wan to be a leech who benfitds from some of the sharing.

As far as people bothering the winner, that all depends on who you know and where you live mostly. But we only hear the few negative stories in the media, that is what makes the news. Not the thousands of boring stories where none of the winners were ever bothered, or robbed etc. People only read those and then become over paranoid thinking that the whole world will now be watching their every move. Depends.

If you have a brand spankin' new Aston Martin sitting in your driveway a week after you win, then going anonymous would be pointless.

For a winner that invests the bulk of his money and continues on with normal day to day activities and does not go too far beyond his old means, it's definitely possible to remain anonymous even in a small Mid-Western town.
