Congratulations to him! With one drawing per day it was better for him to spend the $60 on just the evening rather than Midday and Evening!

It's always best to follow your instincts and play only with money you can afford to lose , i'm sure thats what he did here or else he would not have been spending $60 per draw on the same number! Well deserved win for this man.

1st of all I would like to congratulate Larry on his win.

2nd I don't like stories like this because it brings the illusion of winning big. I've read other posts and people are commenting on him spending 61 dollars on the number everyday. If you read the article carefully you will see he also said he spent atleast $60 a day. He didn't say he spent 60 a day on just that number. If you look back to the other wins he spent $11 on those wins, which meant he could have spent the other $49 on other... [ More ]

When he said he plays $60 each day, I assume he means in recent history of the past several years.

Just the fact he bet $61 the drawing he won on means he doesn't bet $60 each day . And there are other facts including twice when he bet $11 and won $52,600 that must be considered. IMO, your assumption are based on what is known from the article.

Also, for the record, I'm not a believer in systems nor do I in any way endorse his same number betting strategy.

If your going to play the same number every day till it comes out or you die whichever comes first. Put 50/50 on it until the money you spent equals half the payout then start playing it 1.00 st and 50 cent box continue doing this by increasing the bet 50 cent straight whenever the money equals half the payout of the money you spent on said number.

Hopefully you win sooner than later. But beware in most states there are thousands of pick 4 numbers that haven't came out straight yet in 10... [ More ]

I concur that this is basically random luck.

And the luck is really in the 1-2-3-4 in West Virginia being hit 3 times in 8227 draws. Anyone playing 1-2-3-4 in WV since the beginning, whether it be $1 per draw or $60 per draw would be turning a profit and be part of that 0.1% of winners.

It's simply because the number fell 3 times more than it was likely to appear. With the $5000 straight prize, you have a guaranteed profit in that situation. I'm sure you could just as easily, or more easil... [ More ]

Of course I'm happy for the guy. It's just that Florida has a lot of people who are spending their rent and food money on the lottery and now we have Powerball and MegaMillions.

Nothing wrong with having choices in a free society, but saying $61 a day on a pick-4 (and the same number) is a good investment is very misleading. I'm not pushing any beliefs, simply making an observation of fact: he did not play $60 straight on the two previous wins of $52,600. Could it be that on those two days alone, he only played $11 but every other day he played $61? Possible, but unlikely. Amazing. You people will assume whatever it takes to make his record consistent with your beliefs. The man said he played every day, AT LEAST $60 per day.

And Ronnie316 is the most incredulous of all. I guess that if he had a Drip investing account that after 10 years of decline, showed a -90% (negative) ROI, he would be unfazed if the day after the stock tanked to pennies, he could report that, ON THAT DAY, it went up from 20 cents to 30 cents, for a gain of $100 on a Drip of only $10. It wouldn't make any sense for him to have played $60 every day on the same number and collect $50,000 on the first two wins. The $60 he spends every day might include scratch-offs and other games, If he played at least a $1 straight/box every day, add another $2800 to the total wins because the combination was drawn 28 other times in the 8224 drawing history.

The article also says Mr Hughs has been playing the Daily 4 since it started, which appears to be 1987 at the WVA website. $60 a day for 26 years is $569,400.

In most states pick3 and pick4 can be played daily, with 365 days in a year, spending $60 a day mounts up to spending $21,900 a year. If he has only been doing it for ten years, then he's ahead not accounting for taxes.
