I remember reading years ago about a young Georgian girl winning a share of a very large PB jackpot on her first try just after becoming old enough to buy a ticket. The only reason she hadn't played before was she was too young to buy a ticket.

Why is it strange to only play when the jackpot is much higher? She just won life changing money. I don't what the jackpot is, if I win even at the reset amount, I'm set for the rest of my life and I don't have to work another day. That's good enough for me.

I read in an interview she gave that she is an occasional lottery player usually at Holidays and birthdays. When she was checking out of the store the clerk asked if she wanted to purchase a PB ticket. She stated she had never played the PB before so why not, and she bought two tickets one for her and one for her husband. Chances are if the clerk had not asked she probably would not have purchased the ticket.

I believe it may have been her first lottery purchase. Her age is not relevant. I think 90% plus of the people I know have never bought a lottery ticket. Maybe it does have something to do with the level of education but these people I know are not multi-millionaires either.

Some ppl simply do not need anything other then a reliable and safe car. Nothing wrong with her saying what she will buy. its her money , her choice.

Cars lose value the moment they pull off the lot, so why not make the loss be low.

Only negative I have to say is that until that money hits the bank account, stay employed. Quitting before hand,unless you have income to sustain is unwise.

May they enjoy the winnings and live healthy lives.

The Lottery is an equal opportunity game. Anybody can win. Of course one must be 18 years old or older.

I agree with the 10% Fed tax proposal. Even better make it a 0% tax rate.

I am thinking about winning and then coming onto this Lottery Post site and update everyone here. Just thoughts going through my mind.

I don't believe in lottery winnings being taxed at all really.

39% Federal tax is just insane! If lottery winners should be taxed 10% would be more than enough.

Some other countries do not tax lottery prizes at all, and we could do the same.

The government is a greedy beast who can never be satisfied.

Since they were together when they bought the ticket, why do you think they claimed it just in her name, rather than as a couple? Maybe the two tickets were one for each of them??? But even so, why claim it like that?

I'm guessing they must have some special tax consequences, but just wanted to discuss to see it there is anything to learn here.

I know plenty of people who have never played the lottery and they claim they never will. My cousin plays blackjack and poker. Games he considers skill games. He considers the lottery a sucker's bet and never plays. One of these days I think he'll buy a ticket for the first time just for the heck of it and he'd win just cause the universe is ironic like that.

Boeing employee......I would say there is a 40% chance it is her first time. If she played then her co-workers would likely know about it (watercooler talk) and dispute the story in the press. I know several people her age who have never played, simply because they have no reason or need to. It is also possible that this is her first Powerball ticket, not first ticket ever. I could say it my first ticket if I have never played the game before.

Lisa Quam, who bought her ticket at a grocery story in Auburn, south of Seattle, had the six correct numbers in Saturday's multi-state drawing, the lottery said in a statement.
