But some cons are actually more content in the joint and if they do get released prefer to go back to '3 hots and a cot'.

Jobs and Housing! That is what people look for everywhere.

Hope will also decrease the demand for illegal drugs.

Probation Officers are there to help you after you get out. To walk the straight and narrow path.

Depending upon how long you served your previous circle of running mates may be gone or in prison themselves.

It is up to the prisoners to use this time wisely while they are away from the drugs and alcohol.

That's the key. Prison itself just keeps you away from a lot of the problems while you rehabilitate yourself. You can find the same help that's available in prison on the outside, but too many people find the problems instead. Of course once you're back outside those problems may be too much temptation, but being away from them for several years helps a lot more than being away for a few weeks.... [ More ]

I am guessing that some prisons really do rehabilitate the prisoners. The lifers take advantage of the opportunity to teach the new prisoners. It is up to the prisoners to use this time wisely while they are away from the drugs and alcohol.

Any type of addiction that causes you to spend more money than you can afford to spend will be a problem. The word budget might as well be a voodoo doll to some lottery winners. The idea that they have to play by the rules, is totally unacceptable, they consider it too restrictive. Billionaires like Gates Murdoch don't throw money around, which is the reason they still wealthy. I seriously doubt the above two individuals have Lamborghini's- not that they can't afford it, but that they don't need them, to show they in money.

The real problem is having too much time on their hands and pockets full of money. But that's very common with recent retires that have to find safe and possibly constructive ways to spend their time.

Regardless how he spent a fortune, it still only cost him a buck or two for a ticket.

I think Cynthia split the money she won with her father and her brother so she maybe got like $20 million or less. So the $120 million she won was not what she ended up with. Too sad to you could have budgeted that money to last longer.-weshar75

l had no idea that Cynthia filed for bankruptcy music, but it pays to know what you getting into. I would have put money in Apple or Google stock instead of messing around with the movie industry.Some of these movies that go on to make hundreds of millions of dollars, can turn around and tell investors that the movie broke even , after factoring in marketing costs, etc, etc. The safest movie investment bet out there right now, l think is Disney. I'd have to remember to pray, real hard to my creator, to curb my material desires.

It's bad enough to be spending the 'obscene' amounts I do, every week, on mm and pb.

Cynthia Stafford comes to mind. She was forced to declare bankruptcy in January 2016. She gave away too much. She invested in the wrong industry, the movie industry.

Cynthia has a big heart but her wallet was not big enough.

Yes, there have been many lottery winners over the past however-many years the various lotteries have been in existence. It would be interesting to have the exact numbers but like you say, Music, they disappear from the radar. They just go off and enjoy their windfalls. I am confident they are in the majority, maybe 90+%. The few who do blow it make the news because they squander it in such spectacular fashion and end up hitting rock bottom. Lower than rock bottom. Look at the past winners who we never hear from. Brad Duke in Idaho, The Wests in Oregon, John and Lisa Robinson in Tennessee, James and Carolyn McCullar in Washington State, and many more who have just disappeared from the radar. They stayed off the police blotters.

It also disproves the advice to take the annuity. This guy did and he still blew it like a nuclear bomb. He likely would have done the same with the lump sum but if you've not got your head screwed on right, the annuity isn't going to be the answer. I've heard the problem with the annuity and dumb people is that they borrow against the next payment or sell it to companies who buy those annuities who, of course, take a big cut. This guy's story is identical in so many ways to David Lee Edwards's. Very deja vu. All these self inflicted financial wounds are always blamed on the lottery curse never on stupidity. Lottery winners need to approach their winnings, like successful companies run their businesses. Simply put, all operate on a budget. I guess that word is not in their vocabulary.
