Their mumbo-jumbo answers to How is a Grand Prize determined? doesn't even come close to explaining how they missed the jackpot estimate by almost $62 million. But Saturday's sales were down $33 million from Wednesday and $4 million from the previous Saturday and it was too late to lower their over-estimate.

As an actuary I'd hope that you'd have a pretty good grasp of statistical analysis. You shouldn't need more than a very modest grasp of statistics to understand how they were so wrong with their estimates.

The odds of 1:292,201,338 or 302,575,350 do not support more than one or two jackpot winners.

I saw a billboard for the lottery. It said, Estimated lottery jackpot 55 million dollars. I did not know that was estimated. That would suck if you won and they said, Oh, we were off by two zeroes. We estimate that you are angry.

I AM GOING TO BOYCOTT POWERBALL AND MEGA MILLIONS because Powerball advertised a $750M jackpot when it was only $687M and Mega Millions advertised a $1.6B jackpot when it was only $1.58B. If their projections are off, they need to be held to their advertised jackpot statement. Otherwise, that is false advertising. In the securities world, doing this will land you in jail, but I guess it is alright for the lottery commissions to overstate their jackpots with no repercussions.

That's why the MM PB websites say ESTIMATED JACKPOT .

They base the figure on the sales, and estimate at current sales rate, they will be able to have what they put up as the next jackpot amount.

A lot of times, the final jackpot amount is higher than the estimated jackpot because of brisk sales.

You and Daddy should look at the number called odds .

That will tell you everything you need to know about PB and MM. In other words, practically every man, woman, and child in the USA would have to buy a ticket and there would still be some combinations not sold. That is why there will never be much more winning each time over 100 million . That's not rigging. That's just the number of combinations in the game.

Rigged might be going a little far but it's a paradox, even some players who believe it's rigged get drawn in by bogus jackpot amounts and the MUSL is very well aware of that.

Birthday numbers were drawn and that s why there were multiple winners.

I m waiting for the day when the numbers 1-2-3-4-5 (1) are drawn in MM or PB. There would be hundreds of thousands of jackpot winners.

The odds of 1:292,201,338 or 302,575,350 do not support more than one or two jackpot winners. Ticket sales of unique combinations for each draw would have to exceed those statistical odds to guarantee multiple winners. That rarely happens if ever.

Well G, the formulation of the lottery payout system was NOT put on the ballot, so we had no input in that whatsoever. On the otherhand, l may feel screwed over *IF l won,but l didn't. But your concern is noted.

190 tickets matched four white numbers plus the Powerball and won $50,000. Of those tickets, 35 were purchased with the Power Play option, increasing the prize to $150,000, and 20 of the tickets were sold in California, where the prize was worth $11,385 this drawing.

You guys out there sure get screwed over. That's one law that needs to be changed, PDQ.

Was hoping again dozens and dozens per multiple states won 2nd prize or even 4 numbers with Mega or P-Ball this week.

Supposedly, but my thought is Orwells 1984 is here. and they shall live for the Game! But the net net difference is $12 million each for the 2 winners. Audits should be done to ensure that there isn't skimming going on. Wouldn't be the first time.

This is crazy , but in both the latest Mega and the Powerball - the lotteries OVERSTATED the prize value by $62.2+ million. To be off by 9%+ is ridiculous. Sorry but as a retired actuary I don't that you can have that margin of error on two draws in a row. In the meantime, congratulations to the winners.

Two winning tickets sold in Iowa and New York will split the third-largest Powerball jackpot in the game's history.

The winning numbers for the $687.8 million prize were 8, 12, 13, 19, and 27, with Powerball number 4. The Power Play was 3.

The lump-sum cash payout option is $396.2 million.

The winning ticket in New York was sold at the West Harlem Deli at 2040 5th Ave in West Harlem, Manhattan. Iowa's jackpot-winning ticket was purchased at Casey's at 425 Second St.... [ More ]
