A normal payout is probably one that's typical or common. An unusually high payout is unusual or atypical because they don't happen very often, but they're certainly not abnormal in terms of random probability.

Agree with comments about random or not.

Maryland isn't the lone state with these random number anomalies. IMO I believe all state lotteries along with PB/MM, exhibit this same randomness.

I believe the state lotteries have to pay out a certain percentage and whatever it is, state lotteries (PB and MM included) payout at that rate, if not lower.

Here's some more.

Maryland Pick 4 Mid. Oct 7 thru Oct 24. 18 days. (so far)

Guess how many of those days the #9 hit? 15!!! 7 days in a row. Twice.

That's right. The #9 has hit in 15 out of the last 18 midday drawings.

By the way. The #3 has now hit 5 days in a row on the midday.

The 39/93 pair has hit 5 days in a row.

Normal? Random? You tell me.

We've all seen things happen that are so very strange or unusual that it almost defies belief. Almost to the point that we wonder if there is something funny going on. But if it is truly random these things will happen. It is what it is...

With the exception of subscriptions, players must physically be in a state to play their Online lottery games. The same rules apply to state with Internet poker. Next time ask why pick-3 and pick-4 are not offered Online in KY.

That's the CA lottery's position as well Jeff. They want to hear nothing about subscriptions or online gambling. If you a lottery player that is wheelchair bound, they expect you to wheel yourself to the store or get someone to purchase your lottery tickets for you. How thoughtful of them.

Kentucky lottery used my question 'our good friend J.H. has a question about pick 3' or something like that on a news show. It is quite rigorous what they do and you may not have faith in the lottery, but I sure do.

I've often said that the lotteries use the pre-test drawings to control the randomness of the drawings and games. In other words, by not just letting things fall as they may as it would if everything were completely random, they use the pre-tests to eliminate possible hot streaks of individual numbers, or to eliminate possible patterns that may be spotted by the players.

You must have missed the part in the story saying Perry rigged the drawing so he and his buddies could get a huge payday. Have any evidence that every once in a while your state lottery allows someone to rig a drawing for personal gain?

Thats why lottery post is still up and running.

because I like your conspiracy theory that Nick rigged the drawing so Lottery Post would be created 20 years later and his story was the only reason it's still running almost 40 years after.

I watched the videos (both MD and PA Lotteries) and noticed that they touch the balls with their bare skin.

No gloves are used.

Doesn't this allow for skin oil to be transferred to the balls and cause them to weigh differently from each other ball

This Nick fella is quite something else. Putting his scheme together in a church. Wouldn t it have been something if a booming voice shouted out This is God, what is it now?

The Daily Number game, since renamed the Pick 3, now features a security process involving 24-hour video surveillance, RFID-chip-equipped balls, independent auditors, and no less than 6 drawing officials. It brought in $269 million in revenue for the state of Pennsylvania in 2018.

Pretty tight security they have now, as do all other states to prevent tampering from ever happening again.

So with all this security, why do they need to do pretests?

I remember that Nick Perry was a big local celebrity in those days.

It was kind of a shock when that happened.

Pittsburgh has gone steadily downhill since the steel mills closed.

The steel mills were closing and ordinary folks even tried being a bookie to make ends meet. I remember this event very well. I was way too young to play. My friend's dad caught up a couple mortgage payments on the day 666 came up. He served a little time for it too and ultimately lost the house. Pittsburgh, population almost 1 million, is a shadow of its former self. But they are building a new steel mill today. Hmmm
