Yeah they will never go back. It's sad because I used to buy tickets for Powerball and Mega Millions when it was only a dollar but now I only really play if my co-workers are doing an office pool.

The rolls have been weak because not nearly as many people are playing. I can see why though, you have no chance at all to win unless you buy tickets in southwest Florida where it's way too easy to win.

This pretty much correct. From what I found in various state lotteries' regulation books, they put 68.0131% of the prize pool toward the jackpot, and the prize pool is 50% of sales.

The cash prize went from estimated $253,700,00 (jackpot =$373m) to a payout of $274,600,000 (jackpot = 396.9).. that is a (cash prize) difference of $20,900,000.

Not sure how much of the ticket value goes towards teh jackpot.. but it is usually something like 35%... on a $2 ticket.. that is 70 cents...

round prize difference up to $21m... @70 cents per ticket.. that means something like 30 million lines were sold...

As more and more states allow winners to remain anonymous those states don't have any problems with doing so, neither do the countries that allow it.

To bad you weren't here when justxploring was posting..........she once posted about a jackpot winner who was told he couldn't claim anonymously, so he sued the state lottery and won.....becoming famous for winning his case to remain anonymous.

I get it that some are unhappy about the $2 cost for a ticket. But, I can't imagine the folks that won the jackpot, or second prize care too much about what they paid for their ticket(s).

What I don't get is the folks that spend $20 or MORE for a scratchoff ticket that here in Texas has a top prize of anywhere from $1 million to $5 million. Yes the overall odds are better, but still, dropping change like that is .

One lucky ticket sold in Florida matched all six numbers in the Powerball lottery drawing Wednesday night, according to lottery officials.

That ticket ended up being worth $396.9 million, up from the estimated $394 million before the drawing. The winner will have an option to take a cash payment of $276.5 million instead of the annuity.

The massive haul is the 28th-largest US lottery jackpot of all time, and the cash value is the 20th-largest of all time. (Full list is
