NYC has an income tax witha top bracket of nearly 3.9%, so the total tax bill for Meatman could be almost 13.5% on most of the income.

It looks like ticket sales will create a better than 50% chance of a winning ticket being sold somewhere.

If it only gets to an even billion there should be about 150 million tickets sold. That means about a 61% chance of a rollover.

Brad Duke who in 2005 won a $220 million jackpot and took home roughly $80 million had a 15-year plan to become a billionaire. Last update I heard was that he was at around $200 million which is still not bad considering he bought himself many nice vehicles and a beautiful mansion. The financial crisis from 2008-2010 put a dent in his investments so he's got most of his money parked in conservative funds which yield substantially less.

Depending on in which state the winner purchases their ticket, they should take home under $250 million after taxes. It might take a few years to become a billionaire, but it's possible by taking the payments and investing the payments every year.

IMO, rather enjoy having a quarter billion than watching the interest grass needed to get a to $1 billion growing in a bank or financial institution.

It looks like ticket sales will create a better than 50% chance of a winning ticket being sold somewhere. It's not a must win situation like in January 2016, but close. It's highly likely just like PB on Wednesday there will be only one winning ticket. The timing might be right for the MUSL people to discuss placing a jackpot limit on one of the games and increase the secondary prize amounts until the jackpot is won. Similar to the Cash Win Fall games in Massachusetts and Michigan.

A few hours ago we drove to Indiana and looking back @ the billboard in KY it said $999 million. Scanned my PB ticket for $12 and machine did not have megaplier but bought 3 PB and 3 MM. Coming back across the river it said $1 billion.

Sorry to break the news to New York residents, but the Mega Millions Jackpot Analysis was just updated for the state, showing the new 2021 state tax rate of 9.62%. The New York Lottery has verified that they are still only withholding 8.82% at time of payout, so you'll have a little more to pay up at the end of the year.

Lottery officials have just announced that the jackpot for tonight's Mega Millions drawing has been raised to $1 billion, marking just the third time in history that a lottery jackpot has reached that monumental level.
