I dont know why the myth that wealthy people dont play the lottery hangs on like it does. It's a common misconception people have that the rich dont play because the rich think they already have enough or even too much money.

I don't think they'll be changing MM/PB matrices anytime soon. However, I have heard that the latter is considering increasing the frequency of drawings. The pandemic made it harder to forecast sales over longer periods, so decreasing the time between draws would make it easier to set jackpots. Just a rumor of course, but apparently some lotteries are making subtle changes to their rules to accommodate such a change.

the lines were mainly in the grocery stores in TX.

Also, I noticed 43 tickets won 2nd price for the drawing after the big win. Curious if these were regular played or multi-draw and these numbers were in for the big draw

we may never know

if that number had come out on Wednesday, they probably could have won millions

waiting on the next one, for at least 100mil

Keep in mind Louis6 that the odds to win MM are 302,000,000 to 1.

That is probably more than the number of people old enough to buy lottery tickets in the entire U.S.

So, if for every drawing everyone in the U.S. who was old enough to buy a ticket did in fact buy one then not all the combinations would be covered!

It'll be interesting to see if each of those states pay the fixed amounts for 5+0. I am curious if they can pull from the prior record selling jackpot. Because when the jackpot reaches 1 billion every Tom, Rick, and Harry gets a ticket or two.

They are already running a risk (Except for California) with fixed value prizes... Heck, look at the recent Powerball.. winner got $23 million, and 43 lucky players matched the first 5 numbers for a $1,000,000 prize:

43 x 2nd division winners... over $43m paid out ($51m I think)... 7 of them in California, where the value of the 2nd division pool was only $236,789 (each getting only $33,827 instead of a million.... )

Unless the lottery is willing to subsidize prizes, they just haven't been making the sales..

heck..

the growth from last draw ($865m jackpot to $1.05 b is only $185m.. for cash of maybe $136.9m increase.. that's only about 201m tickets sold.

Someone else has said only 55% of the number combinations were covered..

The 1.6b draw had something like 85% of the numbers covered. (IIRC it climbed something like $500-$600m from the previous draw...)

It shouldn't be a surprise there was only one winner, as someone pointed out, the odds are so astronomical now. That's literally the only reason a jackpot can even get this high. In fact, for this drawing there was a 55% chance there would be NO winner.

You should never think wealthy people don't play the lottery. And they have one helluva lot more pocket money to play with than The Average Joe does. That's why they do it.

The odds of a person being struck or killed in a lightning strike are said to be 1- 500,000. When was the last time you heard of anyone or knew someone killed that way?

On the other hand- The odds of winning the Mega Million jackpot is 1-302,575,350

The Powerball odds are not much better: 1- 292,201,338

Im starting to think that the lottery is rigged. How in the hell that only one ticket win one billion dollar when you have millions of people especially in New York city playing more than any others state. TELL ME IF IM the only one thinking like that. There should atleast be 3 or 4 winners or 2 winners of the jackpot. But only 1 jackpot winner make no sense to me. I wonder why bother play

I have a relative that used to be a meter man for an electric utility company. His job was to ride around in a company pick up truck reading electric meters attached to peoples houses.

His route was a highly affluent/upscale or as some people say toney community. (A big bunch of multi-millionaires lived in the town where he read electric meters.)

My meter man relative liked to stop for lunch in a local deli and became a frequent customer there. That deli was also a lottery retailer.

I have a suggestion for megamillions if they ever decide to enhance their game. One is when the jackpot reaches 1 billion dollars all non-jackpot prizes are doubled. For example a 5+0 match (without megaplier) would pay 2M instead of one million. Add Megaplier up to 10M. The lowest prize you could win is $4. This hike in prizes only happens when the jackpot reaches 1 billion dollars.

l believe millions of players are thinking the same thing, BUT we know or should have known that the odds were never in our favor. Personally, I * think, if a jackpot rises over $500 mil, there should be at least 2-3 winners. Michigan was one of the original founding members of Mega Millions, which was called The Big Game at the time.

Just curious?... Where did you get that erroneous info from..? While it's true that MM originally started as The Big Game .. it was started in Atlanta,Georgia..!! and I don't remember the cause having involved ANY Northern States, for the reason explained was that Southern States and players were feed up with always resulting in the Powerball jackpots being won in Northern Stat... Too few second prize winners on a record jackpot. Why not just set the games back to 8 years ago matrixes and hold big multistate raffles once a year or every other year to get the billion dollar jackpots.

For how many tickets that must have been sold here there were NO second prizes in Michigan and it has taken 4 years to get a jackpot!

That is the definition of a terrible game! The MM and PB used to be much much better games.
