You are correct. Slot machines are called one armed bandits for a reason and the payout percentages of state lotteries are even lower than that. There is a topic on this website entitled, If The Lottery Was Honest . I thank you for posting that video and revealing the facts.

When the payout percentage average of State lotteries is ultra low (even compared to Las Vegas one-armed bandits, which have much higher payout percentages), then that is excessive taking from the lottery players.

When the payout percentage is low, that means more money is taken from the players when all the accounting is done. That taking is very accurately described as siphoning.

I agree. Siphoning is mostly a passive process after the initial expense of energy to get the process going. Playing the lottery on a regular basis takes continual effort and how could anyone be forced to do it? Most players -- poor and rich alike -- understand they are most likely going to spend more than they win in the long run. Nobody is being deceived.

I used to go east to Florida, and then sometimes upwards to Georgia to purchase Powerball, Mega Millions, or Lotto tickets. 45 degrees from Florida into Georgia heading from Biloxi, Mississippi.

Obvious deceptive writing in this article. For example,

MLC has returned more than $500 million to the state ...

as if the money in the lottery originated from the state. No, the money came from the lotto players. And many of them did something productive to earn that money, unlike the State.

A more revealing way to write the same sentence would read:

The MLC, a monopoly spawned by State coercion, siphoned $500 million dollars away from the lotto players to the State.

Played their lottery in Biloxi finally. Noticed they just added Double play to Powerball. A letter was mailed to them to compliment on them getting a lottery because they did not rush into it and memory says they thoroughly researched other lotteries before starting.

Mentioned before, I think about WDRB interviewing me a year ago November regarding sports betting in Kentucky. I don't do that but mentioned folks will just go to neighboring states to bet. It did not pass, then suddenly it went... [ More ]

Many Alabamians are participating and contributing to the budgets of neighboring states.

On any given day, if you drive up to Tennessee, down to Florida, or over to Georgia, you can find Alabamians waiting in line to purchase lottery tickets.
