You make an excellent point! Haha It's gonna be brutal for cashiers. I'm in Maryland and stores here have kiosks. I can get my groceries. Walk up to the kiosk and get my tickets.

Yeah I can just imagine come April when a customer at checkout asks the clerk for a megamillions ticket and when reminded that they are now $5- Mr/Ms customer asks to put aside the eggs so that he/she can chase a dream.

Arizona recently started MM and PB cashier line buys in the form of scratcher tickets (think of as quick picks which get activated when bought).

I don't use quick pick like options, plus I do self checkout most of the time (no scratchers in self checkout).

This is going to fun! It's a good idea but when you add customers it's like.....

Wait a minute. I didn't want Powerball. I asked for mega millions.

I don't like these numbers.

Why can't I get the megaplier?

I can't choose my numbers?

Can you give me $120 all on single tickets?

Pity those poor cashiers

Express checkout for lottery tickets

The Iowa Lottery announced on Tuesday that players can purchase Powerball and Mega Millions tickets at select retailers in the checkout lane.

Starting this month, Iowa residents will be able to purchase certain lottery tickets at the cash register in a seamless checkout experience.

By the end of March, all Fareway stores will offer Easy Play, a new purchase option that lets customers purchase Mega Millions and Powerball ticket... [ More ]
