The federal government doesn't benefit from lottery ticket sales. They should collect taxes.

My state of Colorado wins money off the lottery and taxes winnings. It's one reason I don't play very much.

The lottery sent out a very confusing email about this so I called the lottery office. I was told this applied to online wins only....purchased through the app.

Anyway, no complaints about full anonymity. Actually Virginia has chipped away at the anonymity over just a few years. Hoping Spamberger does not find a reason to add another new tax and this time for lottery winners.

Now that covid is long behind us, hoping the anonymity train picks up again for the other states.

Latest bill amendment removes $1 million threshold

Under a new state law, all Virginia lottery winners can now remain anonymous, regardless of the prize amount.

Virginia legislators passed an amendment that removes the prize threshold for anonymous claims and allows all winners to withhold their identity from the public.
