Other than Emilyg's explanation of Root 156 = 12 = 1 + 2 = 3 Root SumThe other Root Sum is using the last digit of the sum.For example: 9 9 9 = 27 = 7 Root Sum 1 2 3 = 6 = 6 Root SumWinsum

You can find the definition of a root at the bottom of the Deflate 3 and Deflate 4 systems. Look for the Instructions section, and it's near the bottom of it.
