You could also eliminate recent repeats combos.Your theory is sound using one digit from the last draw and keying it with the other pairs.  Another way to eliminate some combos is to analyze your three key digits. But you can find a system that works well in your state that might give you pairs to work from. Sandy K has put together a awesome post for Michigan that alot of people view and post.
