Having had a job where I had to fly somewhere about 2-4 times a week at the last minute a lot of flights were taken first class since I wasn't paying the bill and the company needed me there. For most flights there is little difference between first class and coach if you don't drink or have a huge ass. Just bring a can of soda with you for takeoff and it's about the same. That's not true for flights between major cities like between LA and NY. Then there is a big difference like with the after... [ More ]

I agree. I would much rather spend 100 grand on first class tickets than a Mercedes.Because after all, if you spent it on tickets you would have the memory of all those pleasant flights, whereas if you spent it on the car all you would have is a cool car to show for your money.

I suppose we all just have to go with our own preferences and experiences. My first class flights have always been good ones, whereas my coach flights frequently haven't.One mistake people make who consider the concept of winning a lot of money is that we all share similar priorities. I'd far rather not buy some flashy automobile than not fly first class if it came to a choice between the two. You can do a lot of first class flying for the price of a Mercedes.Jack

No, I would not fly first class. Also, as someone posted earlier, buying a private plane will eat up a lot of your winnings due to all the extra expenses involved. I would still be relatively cheap on everything even if I did win a large lottery jackpot, and apart from bicycling across the country, I would not do anything crazy with my money.

I was in the military, and I flew from Spain to the US on commercial flights. In order to get me where I was going on time, one leg of the trip had to be first class. Ordinarily that leg of the trip would have cost about $300, but flying first class cost almost $1400. I'm sorry, but there was NOTHING about first class that made it worth an extra $1100. One of the mistakes people make when they win the lottery is thinking they have access to a bottomless well of money. That ain't necessarily so.... [ More ]

Anyone who's ever flown coach from, say, Albuquerque to Washington DC, sitting between the two biggest women in the United States in an assigned seat would disagree with you.I'd fly first class if I had to fly anywhere commercial. But you can buy an old DC3 about as cheaply as you can buy one of the cars so many people crave. If a person's determined to travel a lot might just as well do that and fly it yourself.Jack

I've flown first class on a major airline before. It's NOT worth the extra money. The seats are bigger, but they're still airplane seats. The food is better, but it's still airline food. The ONLY reason people fly first class is so they can sit with other people who can afford to pay 10 times what the flight is actually worth, and not have to associate with people like you and me back in coach.

I might not fly first class (all the time) and would choose business instead. There is usually a big different between the price of business class and first class on international flights (if you are not using frequent flyer miles or points). It would also depend on how often I would travel and where. After some time, I would probably feel guilty spending $5,000 to $10,000 on a first class ticket.

ok...I know I am cheap...but First Class (aka Business Class) on Airtran is only $25 more then coach. For $8 to $15 Grand, I would be expecting full body massage with the flight. As for JetBlue, All the seats are similiar to First class, except they are coach size.
