this has been one of my favorite topics so far.its really nice to look back and see when all the lotteries first started.it seems that some have been out forever while a few are just starting up.i think the newer ones should look at how the older ones have done and learn from them.

I think CA Lotto begin in October 19, 1986 once a week. Then they started two drawings a week in September 26, 1987. Then it went to a 6/53 game from June 1990 to December 11, 1991. Then they had a 6/51 game until CA SLP stepped in on June 7, 2000. When and why did Texas Two Step occurred? When and why did Lotto Texas went to a bonus ball [5+1] instead of 6 numbers like CA

one of the reasons colorado might not do a pick 3 and 4 game is the fact they have a huge tourist trade. People would have to do a lot of mailing of tickets back and fourth which is a violation of the usmail code. I don't know that might be a good question to email them about.

thanks four4me,i think its strange that colorado doesn't have a pick 3 or pick 4.i think the reason so many people in colorado lead the nation in powerplay purchases for powerball is that they make more money than people in other states and have more to spend....

As I recall the debates in NM were during the mid ninties.... maybe '95, '96..... Passed PB first, then the others came in..... I'm thinking late 96, early 97 was the first PB in NM.J

I know that CA's first 6/49 draw is 10/18/1986. I know that CA's first 6/51 draw is 12/14/1991. I know that CA SLP's first draw is 6/7/2000. I know that CA's first draw in Mega Millions is 6/24/2005. I know that PB's first draw in new matrix [5/55+1/42] is 8/31/2005.

You know, Todd, another thing to consider....if most state lotteries are anything like WIsconsin's, then the individual games all started at different times.For instance Pick 4 here started about 5 years after Pick 3. And the individual games like Supercaseh and Megabucks (in-state games) all started at different times also. So When did the lottery start kind of becomes a nebulous question in some regards.

Jack,You being up an interesting point, which is our drawing database only contains the total amount of data given to us by our data provider. While it is extensive, it seems to go back as far as eight years, and then stops. One of the low-priority tasks on my issue log is to identify, track down, and import older missing data.

Maryland lottery started on 7/29/1976 pick 3 the very first number drawn was 408 evening drawMidday pic 3 started on 5/1/1995 almost 29 yrs passed before they went to a midday draw. The number drawn was 871
