Have you cutback with longer odds?

I have cut back because I just don't see it happening. I play 3 lines now instead of 5 on Mega, and have not even been close, most I had was 2 numbers on a line. It is going to be luck to whomever wins, period. To those with systems on Mega, I just don't buy it. No offense.

Heck no I play the same amount! Why change just because the odds have gone higher against you or me? It's not like they were in our favor in the first place, so why change is my question. All I can say is that, if any of us hit the jackpot, I can bet that one person wouldn't be posting much here anymore! I know I wouldn't be, I'd be way to busy with other things. It's not to say that I wouldn't make time for at least one post a month, even if it's just a note somewhere on LP to say hi.... [ More ]

Because of the National events of gas and Katrina, I would normally be cutting back; however, my wife got a new job making $20,000 more annually, and I got an increase of $16,000; so, fortunately for me (and I say that very humbly) I am able to increase my purchases probably until the end of the year or until I hit. If I don't hit at the end of the year (a Jackpot, that is) then I'll adjust accordingly with my budget as I enter the New Year

I have to start a budget and go back to school, so I have to cut back on Lotto playing in MM, PB, and/or CA SLP. I would wait for a big jackpot to pounce again as long as my dad is with me together. Otherwise, I don't play at all.

Sales were starting to recover before the massive spike in gas prices and Katrina hit. If and when gas prices stabilize and the economic impact of Katrina wans than sales should hopefully recover again. People get used to the longer odds over time especially after a massive jackpot helps promote more awareness for the game.

Well if the sample of Lottery Post players is correct, at least some of the cutback in sales is attributable to the longer odds. Many years ago, when I lived in California, they had an occassion where they lengthened the odds from a 6/49 game to a 6/54 game. Sales fell so far that they went to a 6/51 game.

Judging from how stingy the cash prize is in Powerball I'd reverse that. I might have to start basing my play on the cash prize since Powerball has such a lousy cash prize.

I've raised my minimum jackpot. I only buy Mega Millions after $100 Million, and I only buy Powerball after $75 Million. That in turn will reduce what I buy.

I haven't been playing less so far. IMHO the price of gas is what's keeping people from spending as much lately, not the longer odds.

In a way, I have cut back. Under my old ticket buying system, I played both Powerball and Mega Millions, although not both at the same time. I always played whichever one had the higher jackpot and bought two if the jackpot was >= $75 million ($90 million for MM after they went to 1 in 175 million) and three if the jackpot was >= $200 million. However, since both games increased their matrices, I'm playing only Powerball (since I live in Iowa), and its jackpot now has to be >= $100 million fo... [ More ]

I always thought the number of lines I purchased gave me a fair chance to win something, why would I think buying less when the odds go up be better?RJOh

This year I have played powerball for only the one line with powerplay for most of the time. But some of the time I like to change it up and play between 2 and 5 lines every now and then. It is usually when the jackpot is above the 100 million mark.

I have had a prize minimum to play since Powerball broke 300 million almost four years ago. Same prize minimum of 300 million but no game has broken that threshold yet. For state games it's lower. I would say that local games switching to computer drawings has turned me off far more than a change in the odds.
