The odds of winning second place are 1 in 3,563,608.83. Powerball sold $25,826,780 worth of tickets (not including PowerPlay) for last night's drawing, according to lottoreport.com. Therefore, the MUSL statistically expected seven second place winners (rounded down), and that's what they got. One of them just happened to have bet the extra $1. Not an even payout with the old matrix at all. Congrats to the lucky Colorado winner.

I thought the point of changing the matrix was to reduce the number of winners. Paying a million dolllars and $200,000 to 6 other people seems even with the payout of the old matrix.

That is a nice prize a million dollars for a second place prize. Some lucky winner in Colorado is a new millionaire.
