I think anything over 200 million is simply retarded which is why I hate that PB raised its odds. It gives you almost a zero chance of hitting it not to mention being completely excessive.

They already had a billion dollar jackpot - it was called Pepsi billions. (even though you could only win 1 billion). It had the most inflated annuity ever. Cash value would have been less than 1/4 of the advertised prize. I would rather see lotteries move away from bogus jackpots and have tax free cash prizes rather than inflated sums no one will see or get.

Yeah, but Powerball capped only the AMOUNT PER ROLL, not the overall total jackpot. If the jackpot rolled seven more times then, it would have made it over $500 million.

If you recall, during the last run at Powerball, they increased the jackpot only $20 million per draw and did roll some of the excess money into the lower tier 5+0 prize, so that instead of winning $100K, you were looking at a $1 million payout if you matched 5 and no Powerball.

I voted never but now I'm thinking back to when the MA lottery had a Wed evening draw on tv for $50,000 and everyone watched eagerly. I knew someone in Boston who won it too, sometime around 1970. Of course I also remember looking at a beautiful home for around $60,000. Different world. So I guess the never in this lifetime depends on your age

I also think it could happen....but like everything else it wont be worth 1 billion by the time it gets here....it wasn't to long ago when jackpots of 50-80 million used to hit the news.....now its jackpots of 200-300 million before it's mentioned....15 years from now it will probably be 700-900 million....after that they'll probably raffle off a state for you to win. don't hold your breath!!! when the pots reach the 300 million dollar mark people start buying tickets as fast as they can print em out, increasing the chance a winning ticket will be purchased. If and when a jackpot reaches the 500 million dollar mark. Even more people will be playing until the pot is hit. Only by some fluke that the winning combination is not drawn will the pot grow higher than 5-6 hundred million or more.

Hey if the federal government sponsored a cash payout lottery with proceeds to pay off the national debt only, and specified all winnings to be totally tax exempt both fed and state .... I'll bet it could be done rather quickly. Yeah, high matrix, odds long but the lure of a high tax exempt cash jackpot would likely have money raining in from all over the world.

With inflation I think it will happen. We have done millions of things today that years ago we never thought was possible. Especially if the prices of play goes up, which I hope they do not. Many just can't seem to fathom that kind of money NOW. But as time goes on, a billion will seem like less and less. Just like a million now does. Now a trillion dollar jackpot could take awhile. The sun will most likely have burned out by then.

It will not happen even if Powerball and Mega Millions change their matrices two more times!!! In the event that does happen, both games should cap jackpots at $500 million and just spread any more money out among ALL the lower tier prizes

I wouldn't think the states would gain an increase in sales after about $500,0000,000 so I think they would have a rule like PowerBall now has to spread the money among all the top prizes which might encourage more people to buy ticket for a chance to win a larger 2nd or 3rd prize. It all depends on what level ticket sales max out for the top prize or some states might feel a billion dollar prize would be excessive and eliminate the players that are willing to spend thousands to win $500 playin... My vote is for never. It would take about 25 to 30 rolls of no MM jackpot winner to get 1 Billion. I think people will win MM jackpot before it reaches 1 billion. There could be some North American jackpot record of 363 million soon, but never at 1 billion.
