Thanks for the positive energy. I've been out of grad school for 2yrs now (I'm 26)....thankfully I do have a job ( it pays well- I can make my student loan payments ) I have loving parents that are letting me live with them while I save up enough money to get a home. I haven't gone to a professional job placement service because for a while there I didn't have the $$ to do so. Maybe I will soon but I'm still throwing out resumes, maybe something will catch. Have you gone to a professional job placement service to make sure your resume and cover letter are written well or use key words? Add me to the list. I have a Masters degree in Criminology. Sadly I'm not using it- not because I don't want to but I can't find a job to use it in. I've applied everywhere (federal gov't, state gov't, local gov't- heck even the lottery!) but either I'm overqualified (through my education), underqualified (don't have the work experience) or there are 100's of people applying for 3 positions I'm the one they don't pick. Well, the truth is that I have a GED and a few, very few college hours and of course not a college degree.

Scripture educated me and I am not talking about sacred writings, but about the written word, printed word to be exact.

For the most part, libraries' and bookstores' books, educated me or I educated myself thru reading them.

I am not one of those who have a PHD.

And English is my second language, which I started to learn when I was sixteen or seventeen years old.

Probably on LP most of us are here to learn to win lotteries. If we can learn to do if from someone who has a 9th grade education, bad breath and a bone through his nose, those factors are worth ignoring in favor of a higher ideal. Jack

7 PHDs, 6 Masters, 11 Bachelors. Tntea's got a Masters and happens to also be be a contender for top predictor on a fairly constant basis.

I'd bet she's got the highest formal education among those there. It would be interesting to know where the 7 PHS, the other 5 Masters, and the 11 Bachelors are on the list.

It seems like forever, but I did try to go to College at night to get an Associates Degree with the concept that eventually, I would go on for a Bachelors. Well, considering I was taking an average of 1 class a quarter, I did rather badly in one class. I dropped out of high school (New Jersey) and went in the Army. They did us a big favor and made us take the GED test. As all that stuff was fresh in my head I got good scores - then the Army gave us an Army GED and applied to the home state.

I got a letter from NJ Dept. of Education that said they wouldn't issue a GED to anyone who dropped out and got it before the kids who stay... [ More ]

I quit HS cause they had recess. And went into the army. got my ged when i was like 36 yrs old. Passed the ged in the 10% tile range. Went to machinist school got my papers. Worked for a mom and pop shop, that got old real quick then went into a state of the art CNC shop. Went to college to get my CNC papers that didn't work out as expected cause the shop i worked for worked us to death. however i did get through the class and got my machine tool tech 101 and 102 papers. We have some very talented, gifted, and educated people here on LP who have contributed more than just lottery information.

And then too we also have those folks who exhibit all 12 sides of stupid and who are quite comical at times and display the characteristics of a group of primates.

So you have to take what you can use and leave the rest. You can always learn something from a person even if it is a reminder to don't be like that.

It does bother me, but I don't usually say anything because I have worked with a lot of people that did not have English as their first language. They were always asking me for help with their English and I would never be critical of their mistakes.
