That is how professional poker players figure pot odds . They weigh the odds of making the hand they need to win the pot vs what is in the pot, and how much of what is in the pot they themsleves put in.

Put a dollar-sign in front of the odds and billboard it as the jackpot size. Put a colon between the first and second digits of the cash value and call it the odds.

The less concept people have of the odds against them, the more money they play.

With millions to one odds against the first dollar played there is no such thing as an addittional dollar halving those odds.
