Once again, MM hit again. This time in NY for 31 million. This is the fifth straight winner under 50 million, 6th straight winner under 100 million, and 7th winner this year under 100 million on top of two winners over 200 million. To add insult to injury, it was double 14 as winning numbers. The winning combination was 14-29-32-43-49 MB 14.

Here are the number of drawings per jackpot since the matrix change, starting with the most recent: 6, 3, 4, 5, 7, 14, 14, 15, 4, 9, 17, 16.

The average number of draws is 9.5. A ninth jackpot produces a jackpot of around $100M, a tenth, 120M.

It has produced jackpots as high as $315M. There have been nine drawings with jackpots over $200M.

I also don't understand how a string of low jackpot wins decreases sales of opening jackpots. If anything, it should increase sales at the opening levels, because one would think that one at least had a chance of winning.

the game might be set up to generate large pots but when a quick pick wins it has nothing to do with the matrix. It just happened someone bought a ticket that had the numbers that were drawn. this is not a big deal. in fact i would be ever grateful if my Q pick won regardless of the amount.

The recent Maryland winner was a quick pick. It doesn't take much smarts to say one quick pick please. As far as the MM computer picking numbers that will guarantee a win or a loss, your are implying that the mm drawings are fixed. NY and NJ get second place winners all the time.

Seems the ball is in the player's court, but probably not for long.

The house always wins, so, it won't be long before players will be moaning and groaning about not winning. and the states will be laughing all the way to the bank, as they always do.

The MM lottery uses a mechanical drawing machine. I doubt they can routinely arrange an advantage for themselves by getting the balls to fall in ways that would produce combinations not sold for a particular drawing. If they could, I doubt the... [ More ]

You may have just hit the nail on the head. Just look at history, MegaMillions states like Ohio, Michigan, California, New York and Maryland have produced some of the smartest and most inventive people in the country. I wasn't born in Ohio but I've lived all but five years of my life here and I'm just hoping I've gained enough smarts to be a future winner using my system. My prediction statistics don't show it, but I think I'm getting closer.

Being smart has nothing to do with it. Powerball had added a much larger population base to it's players yet didn't change the odds. They had a long string of low jackpots then corrected the problem by changing the odds. Megamillions added the largest state and miscalculated the needed odds.

It also doesn't help that several of the Mega states continue to grow in population. I don't think they will fix it soon however due to the way Mega handles it's business. I'd say maybe they will do some... [ More ]

The matrix of MM is still more difficult than Powerball....so how come MM is being hit so frequently?.......the answer is simple.......There are SMARTER players playing MM at this particular point in time. I will gurantee that if I had the time to go and find PB tickets to play 55 numbers .....there won't be a roll over on Saturday. There is a systimatic pattern that if played with enough numbers, forces the lotto game to then randomly select the number that will pay out the least. I know you do... [ More ]

Well Powerball fixed their problem with a matrix change. Hopefully Mega can do the same and soon. Currently states seem to focus on the stick with outlawing online gambling but not focusing on the carrot with half decent games to bet on in the first place.

lol I remember in winter of 2005, when Powerball was getting hit every other week, some LP members in Powerball states said they wished they lived closer to a Mega Millions state. Now the reverse is happening.

Hmmmm.....this is getting annoying.....maybe I should turn my attention to forcing regulars winners in Powerball....maybe I might have some better fortune in having the numbers fall in my pool of numbers...instead of someone else. Everyone, MM Jackpot is hit again. This time it's in Maryland at 49 million. This is the fourth straight MM jackpot winner under 50 million and fifth straight MM jackpot winner under 100 million. I think it won't reach 400 million for 2006. I think it needs many rolls in a row to get there because sales are starting to drop.

Ouch for Mega Millions. It rolled only to $14 million annuity ($7.8 million cash; only a $1.1 million jump cashwise), which is its smallest roll yet since it went to 5/56 + 1/46. I guess this means Mega hasn't upped its minimum rollover amount when it changed the matrix. Mega's minimum rollover should be at least $3 million. Powerball's current minimum roll is $5 million (approximately $2.2 million cash judging by its current cash to annuity ratio), and its annuity roll from a reset jackpot... [ More ]

I agree that Mega Millions shouldn't do anything. This is just a run of luck that could, and will, go the other way. The odds are 1, not 0, in 175,711,536. Players play to win, not to raise the jackpot.

Mostly this is just luck of the draw.

Megamillions has produced two jackpots of over $200M annuity this year, the last in April.

One could triple the odds against winning and still have every jackpot won. It's luck.

I used to play lotteries on every draw. Now I only play them when the jackpot is large, and I use the expectation value. I'm not sure that longer odds is really the answer. I suspect that if they made the odds against winning the lottery infinite, no one would play.... [ More ]

Well, looks as though I will be saving money a while longer. Since I don't play MM until it reaches at least $50 million, I haven't played in a while. My state lottery hasn't been high enough to tempt me to play, and I see it got hit again last drawing, so it is back to $1 million. I did play the state Quinto for a few games until it got hit a few weeks ago, and it is too low for my taste right now and it will be weeks before I'd find it tempting, too. I vote they just call it 12 million instead of megamillions for clarity.

The funny thing is sales won't cover this starting pot for long. I'm wondering how long it takes before something changes. I'm sure that state lotteries must discuss these things. I also can't imagine state lotteries being fond of loosing money.

The three largest selling states in the last MM draw were as follows:

NY: 2.48M

CA: 2.46M

NJ: 1.42M

Ohio was 4th at 1.26 M. Rounding out the top 5 was IL at 1.44M.

It is interesting that a substantial number of people still are buying MM tickets in CA and NY since they have better in state options. If I lived in either state, I wouldn't buy MM tickets.

California does sell more....usually they sell the second most behind NY.

but wow ohio and cali are taking it all. i can see cali with alot of winners because of the population, but why ohio it's a small state. guess when the machines is picking winners tickets sales don't matter. ovarall i see it hurting ticket sales in our states.
