I've seen it happend to myself by total accident the person scanned it it read loser...lmao, but thank god it was a dud.

I'll take my chances any were with even on the machines. Like today spent $ 20 a machine and came away with $500 last week spent $20 at the store came away with a $100 you do the math.

So it's possible for clerks or store owners to scan the tickets without being detected? Don't they have to stratch off a portion of the ticket to scan it?

Luckily i've always seen the clerk rip mine off the roll from the bin.

There is an aroma of truth in the method some will use. Be it a clerk or a regular who waits to see whats being tossed.

I'm an advid beleiver that telling anyone will fall upon deaf ears. I've in the past reported a store in which the clerks were scanning tickets for winners ( These were from a new batch before placing them in the pullout bin). They would deliberately tear them off and place them to the side. I had boughten five of the same game. They handed them to me out of numeric order... [ More ]

Clerks know which one is due for a big win. All day long they watch people play so and they have advantage over us. They buy a few after they see players losing.

The only thing that makes me wonder is that I heard several employees at my local Publix market won a lot on scratch tickets. I rarely buy scratchers, mainly Lotto. However, one day when I said I never win anything, the clerk started telling me about this clerk and that clerk who won with the instant games. I only know of one cashier there who hit $10,000.

How do they know that the tickets are winners without uncovering the 3 digit code at the bottom of the ticket ?

Are they uncovering the code ? If so they need to be reported ASAP

I have never been a clerk at a store that sells lottery tickets, but I tend to agree with selfprodigy. I don't buy many scratch tickets, but I've seen people buy 10 tickets at the end of a roll, the beginning of a roll, when a game first is announced and toward the end of its run, and they still lose!! Of course saving tickets is wrong anyway.

I have encountered Indian store owners and family members scanning tickets and then still selling them. they know which tickets on the role have money on them. from my investigation I go into this store daily and it has a lot of winners but when you ask the people that hang around there who's winning on all these scratch off and they say not them I think the lottery corporations should come out with a better way on how these tickets are dispersed .we all have had this problem and it is bad here... yes i think it is f wrong because i have two tickets with a couple of fan 5 numbers on it i know i got two numbers right on each row i have 6 set when i went to cash them in to get the free tickets the machine said not a winner i had the clerk to pull the winning numbers and i saw i had two right in each row so i had him to run it again the machine said not a winner what to do

I was a clerk that sold lotto for a about a year. I'm telling it doesnt matter if they are saving tickets for people. I've seen people win hundreds in the middle of a roll. Nothing at an end of a roll, and so on. It's random stop freaking out they are just superstitious like many of you. Maybe this is why so many get pissed.

At my store they use to save #82 on jumbo bucks, because I had a dream that I won on this one , not anymore, I think it was really just a dream, smile.

I also believe if it is my time to win I will no matter what the ticket number or ticket.

I have this favorite store that I get tickets from. The clerks are nice and I have a good rapport with them.

Everything has went well until recently .....they hired a new girl and she immediately started asking for tips. I have been known to tip on certain wins, but no one has ever asked until now.

She does it kinda off the cuff, like are you gonna scratch here or outside ? or hey, if you hit, half is mine .... and to top it off, there is one lady that is a big time scratcher there

I hardly buy them ,but the clerks do know what tickets numbers hit.For example one clerk said that the number 9 is usually a winner 4 out of 5 times basic on his paying out winning ticket ----so who knows

NO NO NO NO NO !!! I am a c-store Manager of 11 years and I dooo nottt trust anybody in any store including in my own!I have a dozen different ways to check behind my people and I do it every day.I had one steal $325.00 worth one nite and he threw the losing tickets in the trash can behind the register and forgot to empty it!When I had done my inventory I was $325.00 short.

I can see this happening. All the clerk should have said was that the roll was already purchased by somebody who wished to take his tickets one at a time. I don't by scratch off's very often, but, I would trust the clerk at my store also.

At the store I play at this has happened, however the person had bought the whole roll and chose to leave them there. The people that own this store are very very trustworthy, where as I would not consider doing this at any other store I would with them because they would never cheat you., sounds far fetched in todays times,but it is true, there are still lots of honest people left, sadly we only hear the most about the dishonest ones.

Technically, it is wrong. I voted maybe because of the following: I am not sure if holding a ticket works to anyone's advantage. I really don't know because the clerk would have to know what was under the scratch-off to do his customer pal any good. Do they not stagger the winning rolls in different runs to different stores?

I would like to know if anyone knows because I am not a big scratch-off player. I do not think there is anythings wrong with it and in fact find it very interestin... [ More ]

Not only is this wrong, but AFAIK, in most (if not, all) states this is illegal. Lottery retailers are not allowed to refuse to sell tickets to anyone unless the following conditions apply:

1. The customer wants them outside of the Lottery hours (usually anytime between midnight and 5 AM.)

2. The customer cannot pay.

I used to run a terminal at a store in PA, and one time asked if I could refuse service to someone because they I thought they may have a problem.

Why didn't you report it to the lottery commission. They have cameras in those stores. The manger was probably in on it. I've heard that in some batches the best winners are at the beginning and especially the ending. Some clerks know the pattern of winning tickets about where they are in batches and most times buy them themselves or give them to friends and tippers.

Yes this is wrong. Hard to believe too..

People should be entitled to any ticket they want as long as they take the tickets in order as they come off the roll..

I was at this store scratching my scratch-offs. The store clerk opens a new packet of scratch-off from under the counter and hands the first scratch off to a man. The man leaves and the clerk returns the new scratch off packet under the counter. I said wtf and I asked for one. The clerk said no This is wrong man.
