And how do you know that stephen Hawkings can kick your butt on the lottery?I don't know if that definition holds true..Why i say this? I think any reasonable definition of a sport requires some sort of physical prowess to be good at it. If there's any confusion about whether or not it's a sport I'll suggest a simple question to ask yourself. Could Stephen Hawking kick my ass at it? If the answer is yes then it's not a sport.

I guess I'm an idiot and I just don't get it, because to me, car racing and horse racing IS a sport.

ANYTHING where there is competition involved: be it to beat the clock, beat someone to a start-finish line, win an award at a contest (think pie baking), anything you do that is 'against' something, be it a person or a standard, is a sport.

I beat the S P 500 with my investments all the time, to me, that's a sport...

TnTea, this is a good question. Never wrote that until I just saw how many of us are posting with different ideas. I guess this is one of those questions that has no right or wrong answer - no yes or no. I mean some people call a goldfish or a tarantula a pet. You can't hug them, cuddle with them, they won't fetch, lick your face or purr, but it's still a pet to them.

the problem with pick3 and pick4 is that you don't come up ahead of the game so you are sort of speak gambling because you are losing money, and even though in nascar you wish for your car to win, if you don't win, you can say that you had a good time on your seat, but you can't say the same thing for the lottery, because you lose your money and then is not enjoyable...That's the problem with pick3 and pick4, that you lose your money and when you lose your money you don't have fun (even though,... Nascar and motorcycle racing is a sport and what do you do in there? You wish : YOu wish for your particular car or motorcycle or eightennwheeler (germany) win...Same thing with the lottery, you wish for your number to come up..When your car wins or horse wins you jump (is funny though because nascar is a sport but i don't think horse racing is a sport) and get emotional, etc, just the same way you would do if you won the lottery...But one point i'll like to add...LOtteries that are easy i cons... I guess there's a fine line that separates the 2, although I think it's a lot wider. There is a Game channel on TV and I doubt if Match Game or Lingo would ever air on ESPN. Maybe sport depends on how you personally play it. I suppose the same goes for athlete. If someone told me I was going to meet an athlete, I'd picture someone who is lean and muscular, eats right and works out hard every day. They are making $700 drivers and selling them to folks that think this will turn them into a scratch golfer overnight, and it won't.

Peoples' mentalities for things like this are the same as those that think that by buying a radar detector that they won't get speeding tickets anymore, or by buying an SUV that they are immune from getting stick or crashing on ice or in snow...

Is racing cars ?

WHO CARES ?

It's a hobby to see how many numbers you can hit, it's a sport or folks would not enter into the 'challenges' they have here, correct ?

Actually, it's anything you want it to be: hobby, sport, job, whatever...

There is a difference between a game and a sport. In fact many activities are considered both. Bowling, Golf, Tennis, Surfing, Skatebording are examples of activities that can be considered a sport, a game, or a leisure activity depending on how it is being conducted.

In my opinion, playing the lottery is a game and not a sport. However, if someone were to form some sort of competition where players are scored on how accurately they pick numbers, it could be considered a sport.

I think of lotto as a mental exercise rather than a physical one.

Newton, Einstein, and many, many others occupied their minds with the world around them. I occupy mine with the randomness of the lotto.

A sport? I don't even consider golf and bowling real sports, so no, no way is lotto a sport.

(Golfers don't walk the courses anymore, and bowling....well hard to say a bunch of people eating pizza, knocking down beers, and rolling a bowl are 'playing a sport').

Saying lotto is a sport is about like saying sports betting is a sport.
