Lay low is slang for going to the mattresses , which means disappearing for awhile, thus vanishing.

When people had to blow town in the Roaring 20's era they were sent to aparments that their bosses (ahem) had....there were mattresses on the floor to serve as beds, so the people would be below window level, thus the term go to the mattresses.

I chose an emergency room. Takes forever to get a doctor to see ya and by then , your lucky ya can remember what you came in for! Seriously whos going to look for you in a local hospital or even your local doctors office.

Or try a federal building where you are asking for help. They'll have ya filling out so many forms that you'll be occupied for days before anyone recognizes ya

Pennsylvania seems to have a lot of place names that are, um, interesting. Even stranger than Blue Ball being a stone's throw from Intercourse, only 45 mile away you can find Virginville. You'd have to go almost 250 miles in the opposite direction to get to Keisterville. There's a place where you could just sit around and relax while things die down.

Mike and Guesser - Lots of people from French Lick, Indiana have relatives there. They check your license and registration at the border for safe entry. The people from Gay Meadows, AL tried to set up a community there, but they were kicked out and finally settled in Queer Creek, Alaska. There was so much gossip about the woman from Three Way, Arkansas that she finally sold her home and headed off to Fort Dick, Calif.

Patagonia. I once saw a National Geographic special and have wanted to visit that part of the world ever since. Switzerland is supposed to be a good place to keep your privacy.

Are you talking about tax evasion or just a place to get away for some peace quiet? I would of course pay all my taxes, but there are a lot of specialists who say there are many ways to legally avoid paying taxes, so I'd check them out too.

Logically, in a motel in the same town you live in until you have all of your affairs in order.

Once you have your affairs in order, you go where you think you can afford to live the rest of your life... be it across the world, across the country, across the state, or across the street.

I choose somewhere near San Diego - or Key West - or Padre Island - or Catalina Island, I have no desire to venture outside the USA anytime soon.

OK, you've won a jackpot and after reading the threads about sharing with others, remaining anonymous if at all posssibe, and info from state lottery websites themselves you decide to disappear for awhile.

Where do you go? Keep in mind, the idea is to lay low , go to the mattresses , etc...
