1) Larry, in his book, The Lottery Solution, William Atwood describes this as random creep . PA doubled the price of the standard or classic 6/49 game while locking many out (as you point out!) of the so called available lowered-tiered prizes.

2) Compare the 4/6 5/6 PA 6/49 prizes with NJ's!

I got one Saturday for tonight's drawing, these are the #s:

07 11 13 17 20 28

10 15 16 21 34 41

01 02 26 34 37 40

I got only the 17. Now, notice that only one # is on twice, the 34. This means the BEST you can do other than 5/6 or 6/6 on the top line, is 7#s scattered. It is ***IMPOSSIBLE*** to have an 8- 9- or 10-number match on this ticket (they DRAW only 6 balls) so it is therefore LOCKED OUT to win SOME OF the prizes right off the bat! I thought I had the $6 million tonight. For the 6th time ever I matched 4 of 6, and 7 of 18. The best I ever did was 4 of 6 and 8 of 18 so far. I played only one ticket with my own numbers, and of course the other 2 lines were QP. The second QP line had the 4 matching numbers, and the other two numbers were off by one, and a few digits.

My hope is that the people at the lottery commissions will come to their senses and revert back to the prior form of pick 6/49 etc.. I am pretty sure the revenue has dropped for these new style games because everybody I know has stopped palying them(the jackpots grow very slowly, the only people playing don't know the diff). The consultants or whomever proposed these changes should be made to pay the lost revenue and work up costs for not consulting with the people that play these games. But... [ More ]

The only thing on MATCH 6 that puzzles me is that you can match 10 numbers in a 6 number drawing. That means that either some tickets cannot win that way OR the QP generator deliberately repeats some of the numbers to make sure a match of 10 is possible. The 2nd and 3rd line are not extra plays for 66 cents each as those do not count for the jackpot but only for lower prizes. It is NOT like the old Super 6 game where all 3 lines were separate games. Well finally had a decent payback. I matched 8 of 18 on one ticket, 7 of 18 three times on another ticket, and had a few 3 of 6 on the other. I spent $40 and won back about $100. Not too bad, more money for next week is about all it amounts to.

I believe the "jackpot" games are only powerball and mega millions. canada has the super 7 and some others, but here in the good ol' US I only consider the above two as jackpots. There have been many times when I mentioned Hot Lotto in this forum. OK, it's not a single-state game (nine states and DC), but the jackpot odds are in line with one-state games.

I agree with Webster. Its the premise of referral for the english language. The JACKPOT for Match 6 has been increased to 5.1 million (CASH!).

Place the FACTS and STATISTICS before an adult and allow them to make their own choices.

I don't mind the match 6 too much, except for the $2.00 price, low starting jackpot which increases VERY slowly, and the fact that the 2 other lines are QPs. This is rigged so that you rarely ever get the same numbers to get many out of 18. I win a lot of low tier prizes with it, but this does nothing for me except lower the expense of playing for awhile. Also I discuss PA's jackpot games in this forum because they are jackpots, even if they are small ones; and they do not get buried as quickly... [ More ]

Quoting Webster, the definition of jackpot is the top prize in a game or contest (as a lottery) that is typically a large fund of money formed by the accumulation of unwon prizes . Therefore Match 6 would be considered a jackpot game. The top prize (or jackpot) is determined by an accumulation of money from ticket sales.

I live a short distance from the PA border, but the only thing I ever buy is Powerball.

The Match 6 is possibly the worst on line lottery game I have ever seen, and I've played lotteries in lots of states, having once travelled for a living. The winning numbers are unnecessarily confusing. One cannot choose the full set of numbers oneself (this was also true of their 6/69 game where the computer picked 2 lines) and the payouts are low.

I find it strangely and deceptively odd that PA games are talked about in this Jackpot forum when it belongs in the Discussion forum. None of PA's games are Jackpot games except Powerball.

Greg: As much as I stand by a persons' right to express an opinion, I think yours is not based on statistics. Learn to research the ratios of how the jackpot grows per state, the payout chart based on game play. I think you'll find that most carry the same payouts. PA happens to be thriving with the Match6 . Sometimes it helps to tone down the boldness in statement in lieu of introducing accurate facts.

Botched 6 is one of my previously listed Disturbing Lottery Trends : a 6/49 game whose price INCREASED to TWO dollars from ONE dollar AND whose lower tiered prizes became MUCH lowered than the previous VERY horrible 6/69 game and OTHER 6/49 games around the country.

The prizes are much better in NJ's Pick 6/49, which I do play, thank you.
