I agree with the Game grl. I really don't think he could forsee what someone else will do, not even his Grand daughter, I Believe He truely Loved her. After watching 20/20 I believe his intentions for his grand daughter was good, He just had no way of knowing what direction people will go in life.

I never heard of the good things he did such as helping people pay off their homes that were going to loose them, I have been close to loosing my home but by the grace of God I did not. I would like... [ More ]

This is just food for thought, I really feel sorry for the guy and everyone who was involved in their own situations. Jack and THE Money can't be the blame for all that happened. We are all going to have to give an account for what WE DO!, it is called our works. Here is a poem:

One can glaringly see the level of closed mindedness when reading some of these *opinions*. I agree, I think he wants people to love him. A FEW bad decisions early on snowballed into everything else. I mean nothing hateful toward him; I only make honest assessments. I think he stayed in his hometown being he owns 3 businesses in the area and probably he likes familiarity. My philosophy if I win is, anyone wants anything, where were you when I was poor?

I certainly made a point to see the 20/20 report on JW...

It's not likely that JW or his family ever visit Lottery Post. If he or they did they would surely get a membership just so they could speak out in his defense. I certainly would. One problem is that stories don't match up or they sound far-fetched. Nobody goes to the nudie bar just to get a drink to go (to drink it in his car?) and you have several different people giving similar stories and he always gives a totally different stor... [ More ]

We never know what we would do until it occurs. Reminds me of a conversation I had with a guy who headed the food service for an upscale assisted living center. His last job was as head of the food service for the Angola Louisiana prison. He had to hire kitchen staff and he tried to hire murderers because they were the best people. They were victims of circumstances. He refused to hire child molesters because they were truly sick.

You hit it on the head Lilly. Most of the actions this guy engages in is about drawing attention to himself. Dressed up all in black and wearing a ten-gallon black cowboy hat when he went to collect the money is all about look at me, look at me . Taking nearly a half million in cash into a strip bar shows that he has a world class inferiority complex. If he wanted to be left alone to sort this out, he wouldn't be going on 20/20. He's the one keeping himself in the spotlight, and when you put all your business out there for everyone to see, you're gonna get judged. And not everyone is gonna be sympathetic. I'm sure he realized that before doing the interview, but for some reason that man just refuses see what he's doing to himself.

I wish that all you people would quit bashing J.W. He was and is a successful businessman who was already a millionaire in his own right way before he ever won the lottery. He has also generously provided others with support and donations before and after winning the lottery.

The kids that were mixed up in drugs and drinking where doing that before winning lottery and J.W. couldn't have known of all the things they were doing behind his back. It was as much their lack of judgement as probal... [ More ]

It's gotta be more than his high profile that contributed to the lawsuits. Who could be more high profile than Oprah? She does get sued (most notably by the beef industry) but nowhere near the 400 suits per year Jack Whitaker said he got hit with. Jack displayed extremely poor judgment in his behaviors, the dives he frequented, running his mouth off making promises. I saw it last night. I felt extremely sorry for Whittaker, especially due to the loss of his granddaughter. Not only did he mentioned that his estranged wife, Jewell, wishes that she had torn the ticket up, but he said at the end of that interview that he wished that he had never won the jackpot. I live about an hour from Kansas (which allows anonymity), and this interview reminds me of how important it is to remain anonymous.

In a true show of all the class the media has to offer, right after J.W. said how he wished he had not won, etc., they went to a commercial break. During the break (in the Illinois market), they ran a commercial for a new set of scratch-off games.

Okay, I have to take back what I said about him being an sob. I think the real problem is that he tried to buy everyone's love and when he found out that no matter how much money he doled out, it couldn't be done and he started drinking and other risky behaviors. I still maintain he's dead wrong to blame it on the money. I watched Jack and I'm sorry I did. It was only 15 minutes, and nothing really new. Except that I got to see in person what a sorry sob he is. He blames everything on money and doesn't take responsibility that his own actions caused 99% of his problems.

Hopefully tonight's Numb3rs will rerun soon, cuz I feel cheated.

Well that was a cautionary tale in indulgence. Most of the so called curse he brought upon himself. He over exposed himself in the media national and local. He never moved from his hometown from what I gathered on the show. It also made him a target for scammers who knew where to contact him. His high profile contributed those numerous lawsuits on his business. He showed no restraint on giving his granddaughter all that money she used on drugs. He knew that was where his money was going. i watched it and i do feel sorry for anyone who loses a member of their family to death but he should have tried tough love when he knew she was spending the money on drugs and he should have made her get a job and not given her anymore money and cars. i dont blame jack w for the death of jesse tribble because im from tennessee and they have discussed how jesse was already on drugs at 12 years old down here before he even starting dating jacks granddaughter so now jesses dad wants to blame it al...
