If you are interested in Sum 140 their are 39,361 different Combinations of 01 thru 55 (5 at a time) that make up that Sum.

Yes. 'Frequency' is the number of white-ball combinations whose members total a given 'sum'.

Sums are only part of the story, for example you could have eliminated the numbers of the previous 5 drawings and reduced your number pool of 55 by 17 to 24 numbers in the last 200 drawings and still had three or more of the winning numbers in 156 of those drawings and had all the winning numbers in 19 of those drawings. Great info everybody! I like using sums (no Pball or Mega ball included) along with decade patterns. The power and mega balls are a separate event.

As RJ can attest, I have been looking at sums for PB for almost 2 years, and all I can say is if you want to play the odds, just pick 5 numbers where the sum adds up to something in-between about 110 and 160, BUT, there is more to it than that, it also depends on what type of game you want to play.

If you have a hunch that WB 2 and 5 will hit, you probably won't get to your 110 low end, and if you thing two numbers will hit like WB 50 and 55, you will probably end up over 160.

It would be super to have the totals added on the result page for each powerball combination minue bonus ball so that we can see the range in how the sum moves..

i use the sum of 140 with out pb. and i do check the total sum of the last 50 draws for that sum.

Years ago, I saw a program where the person was showing how many times a hit would have occured if some certain sum or other had been played (nice graphics, anyway). It looks like a filter, until you see just how many combos are within any given sum. Wonder how many people don't realize that until after they hit the Buy button.

Given the numbers, no specific sum will appear much more than 1% of the time in either game. IMHO it isn't much of a filter. Maybe if you look toward a range of sums such a filter would be more effective.....

That would be one GIGANTIC List considering their are 175 million possible combinations.

I know the person that started the thread was asking about PowerBall, but I know the approximate number of combinations for MegaMillions off the top of my head, so I gave a guesstimate. LOL!

Even without the PowerBall or the MegaBall the list is way too large to be practical.

The grand total of the frequencies is the number of possible combinations. For PB it's 146,107,962 if you include the power ball, or 3,478,761 for just the regular numbers.

After looking at your question about the size of the list I had a brain cramp and focused on the number of combinations including the power ball (or mega ball, in the numbers I used), but I'm assuming most people don't include the power or mega ball if they look at sums. The lowest sum possible is 15 (1+2+3+4+5). The highest sum is 265 (51+52+53+54+55). Every sum in between is possible so there are a total of 251 sums possible for PB. No matter what the specific combination is, the sum has to be one of those 251 numbers. The lowest and highest sums can only result from one combination each, while other sums can result from any of hundreds, or thousands of specific combinations.

not really that would be from 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 + 5 = 15 to 51 + 52 + 53 + 54 + 55 = 265, a total of 251 resulting summed values to deal with.
