I bought a raffle ticket ($20) for the ohio drawing, they mailed out coupons for a $5 holiday scratch off with the purchase of the raffle ticket. Most of the people I know said they never recieved the coupon. One thing I did notice on the Ohio lottery website was that they were suppose to sell the tickets this year in reverse order, the first being 500000 and the last being 000001. I hope some of our members were the winners last night. No winners at all in my city, although there was (1) $100,000 and (2) $10,000 winners in the surrounding towns. A player in S. Fort Myers won $1 million! Congrats to all.

I like the raffle games even though I have had zero luck so far in MD and DC. I bought 7 tickets in the first Maryland raffle and 14 in the second and did not win (I live in Maryland). I tried with 7 tickets in DC and failed again. I have bought 6 tickets for the Virginia raffle (I work in VA), so we will see.

I pretty much stop playing my scratch-offs when I play these. Thanks all...Happy New Year and good luck

I bought the PA raffle ticket at Giant Eagle and they gave me a second chance raffle ticket. They are giving away 500 scratch-offs to two winners and $50 gift certificates.

I bought a PA raffle ticket today for Saturday's drawing and they are just about sold out. And I'll probably use the $20 I won from a Christmas scratch-off gift to buy another Ohio raffle ticket for next Monday's drawing.

I got suckered in by my other half to by ONE ticket for the holiday raffle. There were drawings for an additional $10k. I predicted where the winners were going to be drawn from and was 85% correct. I call it the winner's belt. I also anticipate a repeat of the 4th of July drawing to occour in our state. Winners of the large sums/prizes will be concentrated in and around the following areas:

NC has only sold half of the Merry Millionaire raffle tickets and the last drawing is scheduled for the 27th. Tom Shehan said that the last time the most tickets were sold on the last four days and that they are not worried but they will sell until 2 a.m. on the 27th or until all tickets are sold.

checked the lottery homepage for CA sounds like they removed the option of buying one number for

$5. that they offered last year. Just kept the 5 number option for $20. Sorry about that

But the others in comparison are downright defamation, so PA has the best.

It looks like PA has found the right formula by offering more $100 prizes (7790). The Florida raffle has a different twist by offering 20,000 instant $50 winners.

But the state with the best chance of winning $1 million for 20 bucks will probably be Ohio because I doubt they will sell 500,000 of the 625,000 tickets.

I know the odds are better, but I agree that $20 for one ticket is pricey. If Idaho had done that, I may have only bought one or two tickets. I guess I can be glad that it wasn't $50 a ticket.

They've made great improvements to the PA raffle since the first one a couple of years back (the first anywhere ever), I might buy a ticket, keyword being might because a 1 in 80 chance of winning anything on a $20 ticket is a bit insulting. I'm undecided if I'm going to play ours, 20 dollars is an expensive ticket and while the odds are better than anything else, its still 20 bucks. In CA they are awarding (5) 1 million (50) 10k and (500) $2008.00 prizes. I think if I get a lotto win and tickets are still available I'll buy one, if not oh well, they still do a Fantasy 5 draw everyday.

So far, I've bought three for the Idaho raffle that is going on. I may buy one or two more. I'm not sure yet. I did however buy the tickets on different days to get a variety of numbers. Luckily our tickets are only $10. If they were $20, I'd probably only get two.

They do. Ours is $10.00 I'll probably get one, but I'm in no hurry and don't think it that importnt. The state didn't get anywhere near selling all their tickets earlier this year. But even with the odds reduced bcause of that, I missed winning anything. However, it is the best odds, even as large as they are...

Must be true! I just looked at the Florida site again and they're reporting as of 5:00 today 109,000 tickets sold since yesterday. This will definitely be an early sell-out.

I hear the same from a friend that owns a business with lottery sales: the worse the economy the more the people wager. It is the WTH (What The Hey) syndrome, all or none, damn the torpedoes full speed ahead, in for a penny in for a pound?, you only live once, what me worry?, tommorrow is only theoretical (mine), Rome is burning, etc. thinking.

A really rich guy told me one time that when the economy gets worse people gamble more, because the money just isn't worrth as much.

In fact, he said when the economy gets worse people eat out, drink, and gamble more.

I have no idea why, but FL decided to have the drawing on Dec 29. I think last year it was on New Year's Day. Maybe some people wanted overtime pay! LOL

They sold about $50,000 on Monday (the first day) and expect to sell out again. Last year they sold out in 11 days according to the FL web site. I have a feeling this year will be slower because of the economy, although an awful lot of wealthy people come to FL in the winter. No matter what anyone tells you, rich people do play the lo... Ohio starts their New Years Raffle sales on Friday 11-23.

But, it is hard to believe that they can sell out by then with such little notice?

This is the first year my state has held a raffle, and I'm planning on getting 2 tickets. They're $10 apiece, with only 1 top prize of 1 million.

I just got an email with a birthday coupon for a $1 scratch-off, so I'll buy one of those also. But I probably wouldn't if it weren't for the coupon. I might buy a couple more scratch-offs to put in my mail carriers' cards, but then again, this is Mormon country so I'm not sure if they'd be appreciated.

The decision to buy a raffle ticket really depends on how one normally buys other tickets. If I were playing a set of numbers in a pick-5, lotto, or MM/PB game and had to choose between playing those numbers or skipping a few draws to play the raffle, I would continue playing those numbers because the last thing I'd want to see is 4, 5, or 6 of my number drawn while I was waiting for the raffle drawing.

Well, it's that time of year again and the lotteries are selling Holiday Scratchers and Holiday Raffle tickets.

Florida started to sell their new raffle game on November 19, reminding people to buy early or they might miss out on winning a million dollars with the best odds to do so.

I didn't buy a ticket last year, but I spent $20 on the July 4th game and didn't win anything, so now I'm a bit apprehensive about spending $20 on just one raffle ticket.
