She sure did Four..she got a good jump..heh I was looking around on the game site..found something called TRACK YOUR STOCKS ..I think it is under your portfolios or something....looks like you can still buy and sell and play for fun..I bought 100000 shares of 4 different stocks for monday ...I THINK..hahaha..I am going to try and see if it will let me play still even though the game is over..I bought 100.000 shares of CME for monday...cost me 17 million dollars...hahahahaha

LB, We may never know who they are they could be family members. There are supposedly a couple books written just for this game. I will see if i can find them on the web.

Like i have said normal investment strategys don't apply to this game because of the rules. Unless you understand the rules which are completely different from standard practices. Heh Four..I am with you on the currency trading..some of the players possibly many of them were doing both stocks and currency and got a HUGE BOOST in their totals..we will have to get us a book or 2 and do some reading ..maybe we can get a good general idea on how that currency trading is done..

I might send CNBC an email to tell them..Suggest to them..they shouild just run the game all year long..instead of 500.000 to one winner..just run it year round and have a 10k weekly prize or 40 or 5... [ More ]

According to some CNBC web blog i read apparently there are only 20 players in the finals not 20 thousand. And you guessed it I'm not one of them. LOL So congratulations to them i hope they have fun.

Yes the next time we will collaborate on this game make some plans ahead of time, i should have done some reading up on the currency's exchange as i think some well placed trades can get enough cash going to buy additional stock. Thanks Four..maybe if and when they decide to play again we will have learned a little more so we will have a little better chance to win next time..but I have to admit though..I had alot of fun playing..I never thought the stock market was interesting until I decided to play this game..so I learned some things and took a little more interest in the market..

The stock screener's were on the contest home page there were two of them also when you edited your stocks and it said confirm edits there was a link to click that said import your positions---- this is a stock tool software program.

Heh Four...all I did was use what I know about Random..I just applied it to the market..of course I didnt have or use 18 years worth of data to find something to play or I believe I could have done much better than what I did do..if that had beem my OWN MILLION DOLLARS..I would still be far ahead because I could have sold out on some of them bad beat down days, which I figure cost me at least 250k..I had a lot of fun playing for sure..I never did find those stock screener things you were talking... People who signed up to play will probably get a reminder about a week or two befor the next game runs. In either case i'll pm you when i find out maybe we can develope some kind of glossary of terms.

You have to set up all your porfolioes and play the bonus bucks get a head start and a jump on the players. While you dont have to run all your porfolioes at the same time it helps to have them all because of the bonus buck are applied to them and if one profolio goes under you can start another... John you do not have to play every day. You have 5 portfolio's to work with you can set up a portfolio and let it run make changes or not to it at your leisure. Only draw back is if you want sell off a stock then you have to get it in buy 4 pm on the day you want to close the account. There are daily and weekly bonus questions to answer with answers available on the web bonus questions are worth 2 grand at the most it would take 5 minutes to answer all 5 plus one weekly quiz question.

Sounds time consuming to search out your buys wether they will go up or down on a given day.

Pretty much dealing with news reports and the buy and sell attitude of daily traders in the market.

Looks like you are playing the game of a day trader.

Jap the game is about over, Friday is the end. Unless people make the finals they get one more week to play.

This is the third time they ran the game that i know of. Also this is the third time i played the game. Reading the rules are essential to playing the game, it's way different than real life investing because you cant buy stock in the morning and sell it off in the afternoon for a profit. lotterybraker I got myself in a pickle by not selling off those two stocks yesterday I KNEW IT they went down hard and cost me plenty. So unless they pick up Thursday I'm toast again. Apparently mortgage banking picked up and the shorts were sold off as i said I'm not sure how they work or if there a good investment for the long haul in the game or real life investing, but they did look good on paper graphs. Live and learn i guess.

I absolutely know nothing about them...... Jap wrote in an earlier post about them. I saw the index figures and checked the symbols on the graph chart and they looked good so i bought them. I intend to look into them further and see what the heck the are or represent as holdings are concerned.

I found a couple stocks last week that pulled me along the path to glory. I made it to the top 10000 people. I would be in the top 5000 people if we didn't have such a bad week last week. I can only hope things stay good for a few days longer. It's about over for us LOL we'll never make the top ten

These are the two stocks i vested heavily in SRS and SKF since last Wednesday. Bad part if either ones fails badly so will my portfolio.

I sorta saved my butt today I all but dumped bad preforming stock bought some new stuff and a few stocks made a very little bit of money. Heh Four..looks like your stocks bounced back a little yesterday...all four of the ones I ran yesterday ended up in the red..but not to bad..I lost about 9000 but it was much worse at different times during the day ..I was down 40 k at one point..I already had a sell order in on them so today I am not running anything..and I think the market is going to close down today also..I dont see anything that is going to move the market up until Obama is sworn in..Good Luck today..

I went down the tubes big time --- portfolio is in the dumper. lol maybe I'll recover some of it this week but it doesn't look good. The brokers are purposely burning the stock market down. Big banks are taking government money and buying smaller banks with it. I don't get it no oversight, or lack there of.

Yea i noticed the beat down. I have 7 stocks in play --- 6 went down the toilet but one stayed a float it's earned interest kept me from losing more thousands than i did.

And you must be right the big players took major hits cause my rank improved. I just let my stocks ride if they fail a couple times they seem to bounce back if they fail miserably for three days or more in a row then i off them and get something else.

Hope you do better next week.

Yeah I am trying to catch the up days and sell on the losing days..doesnt work everytime but it has worked so far..like I said before..sometimes the stocks that I chosen to run actually was up like 2 or 3 days in a row and I had wished I would have just left them in..but right now I am trying to find the up days when I actually have stocks running..hahaha..this is one fun game to play..

I think a lot of people took a hit today, the news spouted off about the economy again and the stock marked plunged for the better part of the day i recovered some but losses and meager profits in my portfolio cause me to lose some position. I can only hope for better days. LOL

I don't have any stock i use for the game that cost more than 25 bucks to start with. If it earned more than that then it's OK

Think about how the game is set up you get a million free dollars. plus any daily bonus bucks You can only buy 25% of any one stock or about $250,000 worth. So the more stock you can buy for the bucks you have to work with is the general idea if you buy google at 320.00 a share divided by 250,000 = 781 shares if they earn a nickle you make 39.50

heh four..I saw the NEWSFLASH this morning on CNBC on Monsanto..I knew that baby was GOING WAY UPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP..but didnt do me anygood to put it in this morning it would not have run it..I have learned ONETHING for sure...the market seems to move on NEWS more than anything..good or bad..or maybe that is just the way it is since the crisis started..

lotterybraker, Thanks for your kind remarks.

My stats are about to change for the worst looks like the stock market is drowning today if it doesn't pick up by 4 pm I'll go in the hole. And it's a situation where dumping the stock won't help. Absolutely nothing i can do except hope tomorrow the stock market recovers and pulls ahead.

When the game is over I'll try and explain how i made it this far. Will also post the stock i have for the game.

Yea in the real world it's day trading but for the game it's suicide unless your plan is to purchase stock on the same day you sell of your old stock, for the next day and it makes more money.

Thanks Four..I will have to try that..I am still Learning STOCK MARKET General Info..but I may give that a try next week..I dont have anything running for Monday at all..I sold everything I had wednesday nite and it ran Friday also but was gone after they settled up Friday after the market closed..so..I have to pick something to run for Tuesday..I will look at the small dollar stocks and see if I can find something..good luck and thanks for the tip...

Buy a few low dollar stocks in the 2 to 3 dollar range and run your percentage purchase rate to 22% on each stock for a total of 75 - 80% of your portfolio on a good day if your stock rises 10 cents or more on like 180,000 shares your portfolio will jump up big time.

Like i said you have to forget real time. If you buy stock from now until tomorrow at 4 pm it will cost you whatever the price closes at 4pm tomorrow. I tried to explain this in earlier posts. I learned this lesson the first time around.

If you sell all your stock tonight or during the day tomorrow and is closes high tomorrow you get the rewards.

Remember the golden rule buy stocks at a low price wait for them to gain, sell them off on the day they gain usually a day or two later.

Each portfolio is a single entity. The only way to improve your score is to have a portfolio that makes money.

For instance if you put the stock you have in portfolio number 2 and leave it alone it will grow or shrink.

If you create portfolio 3 and place a few stocks from your first folder in it and some new different stock you can see where that goes.

Buying and selling stock in your portfolios on a daily basis to me isn't a good idea, because its not in real time. You have no idea whe... [ More ]

Yep I'm on the downslide as well.

Yes it is to bad the game isn't played in real time but that's they way it is. If it were in real time everybody would have a field day and their servers would go berserk as thousands of people would dump their stock and buy the preferred stuff at or near the end of the day.

I think she probably started out with some good stocks and has a handle on the currency thing as well. The last time the contest ran i tried the currency thing for a few hours i made a lot of money but in all honesty i don't know how i did it i just kept hammering away at the keys. I think in the rules it states whatever you buy the price is whatever it is at the end of the day. So if you purchase it at 1.00 in the morning and it goes to 7 bucks buy 4 Pm the price is 7 bucks not one dollar.

So while in real life scenario it would be a bargain .... but for the game it's almost useless because you don't get the benefit of buying shares that will grow throughout the day. Unless of course the next day the stock goes up.

heh four..let me ask you a question..FRIDAY morning before the market opened they mentioned HIG's great report so I looked it up before the market was open and it was up a buck and some change so I added it to my portfolio for friday..and it closed up 7.00 bucks and some change I think..but when I bought before the market opened at above 1.00 and some change is what I had to pay right?..

Lantern in the 60's and 70's i could tell almost every US made car apart from one another, what the factory colors were and type of engines they had from the factory unless it was special ordered.

You don't have to know the Mechanics-Make-Up of a Game to attempt prediction, but your predictions might be more accurate-right if you do know the mechanics-make-up of the particular game, in your case it could be called the Stock(s) Game .
