I too see example of it,how economy effects lottery.Here in Illinois millionaire raffle started on the 17th of this month.In just 3 days,they sold almost 80,000 tickets,and each ticket cost 20 bucks.This never happened before.

The state of the economy is making people play the lottery, in the hope of winning money, the lottery is a game of faith and luck, if you dont play you won't know if you were going to be the next jackpot winner or winner of a life changing sum of money, as anyone one of us could win the lottery big time, as long as that person has total faith and believe they will win, it will happen

I think people play more when their future outlook is somewhat bleak. I am sure people play more when their company is announcing job cuts. I know soldiers play more when they are facing another deployment or just more service period (heck I started playing the lottery as soon as I graduated from bootcamp, first buying tickets when I visited my folks in NY and then continuing when I returned to FL...once I got all six numbers for that draw...3 on one line and 3 on the next line---boy that really... This about sums up the typical American today; one needs to balance budget. Yes, a budget includes x amount for your fun, ie. lottery playing after the priorities you have.

people dream wish hope, but forgoing the necessities and priorities for playing the lottery requires a wakeup.

It's called desperation. Yep....I've started playing more than usual since my car accident last year and I have a ton of new medical bills. Before that I hardly ever played....so yep....people play more when times are hard. For example, I started looking for strategies to win and discovered this site....had my finances been level then I would have never discovered this website and others about ways to win the lotto....not that I've won anything major yet...but I still have hope.

I play the same amount no matter what the economy is like.1 quick pick per drawing for MM.1 ticket w/powerplay option per drawing for PB.I don't see any reason to play more or less because of the economy.

From the articles, it appears some people play more in the hopes of winning something to help them out, but I am one of the people who actually cut back a bit. Not very much though.

Some people might play more if they feel desperate, but many people will also cut back if they need the money for more important things like food shelter. So I checked about the same although some state lotteries are reporting lower sales figures. I would agree with Stew12, but you can't spend money you don't have.
