A one store clerk offered me a receipt with my lottery ticket.

So I asked her if I get my money back if it doesn't work...

She said no... :-)

I tried to keep a copy of all my tickets including losers. The cost of losing tickets are deductible

to income taxes to the amount you win.

Ah that's what I thought. The tickets should be enough proof of a win. It's just with some of the stuff that certain lottery's pull, I wanted to be sure.

Your tickets are your receipt for the numbers you played. If you're not keeping your tickets then it doesn't matter if you win. You won't be able to say trust me , I don't have my tickets but I did play those winning numbers.

It just hit me a few days ago. I never keep my lotto reciepts, and never felt the need to. Heck, most of the time, the store clerk doesn't even give it to me! Now, there's no official rule saying that the reciept is necessary to claim prizes; all they ask is photo ID, social security number, and of course the winning ticket, but by not bothering with the reciept, could that leave me SOL when I try to claim a prize (if I actually do win big)?
