I'd tell them I got a huge advance on my latest book - The Bacon and Donut Diet, subtitled - Lard is Your Friend. Then I would fall to the ground and start flopping around like a fish out of water. I feel this would substantially limit further intrusive questions.

If they are still pushy after that answer, I would tell them that both my father and stepfather have passed away within 5 years and that I am an only child and that my stepfather had no children of his own.

How would you explain it to your wife when she does not think playing lottery is right?

Of course telling other family is out of the question.

Just deposit the check, pay the debts and don't tell her?

That way when when I take her out to dinner or get her flowers, she will think it means more if we

are poor than if we have excess money. That will be what I will tell the lottery office when I tell them that I want to remain anonymous.

Most of my friends and family know I already invest in the stock market. They just don't know how much I've made or how much I have. And some of them have come to me for investment advice.

I wouldn't say I got it from investing or stocks, because then people will ask what company you bought stock from.

I've already got that question from people. I'm not lying when I say I've invested in Apple, Google and various other companies.

I would never disclose how much I was worth and to do so would be in bad taste. If asked what I did for a living I'd say I was a private investor. And I wouldn't be lying either. I already invest in stocks, bonds, and real-estate so if I won I would just do it on a much larger scale. Buying a lottery ticket is simply an investment that usually never pays off, but some people get lucky.

what i do for a living is a natural question.

my answer for that is i have a hobby that produces items which can sometimes sell for lots of money so i would tell them that i do my hobby for a living . there are any number of hobbies out there that you could use this same statement.

After introductions at a gathering it isn't unusual to be asked what you do.

Even at twenty, you can always say you're retired.

When I was a kid a friend asked how come I always had pocket money. I told him I had a paper route. A couple days later I came across him trying to sell one of my customers on the other paper.

No. It's rude to ask how much money you make, not how you make your money. If you're going to interact with people, you should expect that questions about what you do for a living will be a part of normal conversation. Give people an answer that leaves them with the wrong questions, and you can expect them to spend time wondering.

Since im a doctor, i dont really have a excuse to tell because i would still work even if i win the lotto. And since my profession can't justify the amount of wealth, I guess I have to go with the inheritance story.

As a doctor, I make enough to live comfortably, but I will never get past the upper-middle class tax bracket.

Anyhow, I hope I would get to tell this lie soon... it's the only lie that im looking forward to tell others.

Making up a story as to where your income comes from when people ask and its none of their business makes one a compulsive liar?

Me, I certainly would come up with a simple and plausible answer that would NOT include a mention of the lottery and it would be the same story every time and would at least retain some sort of truth to it either way, such as living off investments if done since the issue of where the income came from for you to do so in the first place shouldn't really come up.... Let's say you won a huge jackpot and moved somewhere were no one knew you. What story would you tell to people if they asked how you about your income? Would you tell them you won the lottery or come up with something else.

I think I would just tell people I am living off a trust fund my grand parents left me.
