There are also a lot of people that drive to Florida to buy tickets--Georgia, Alabama and Missisippi are non PB states . I would venture a guess of thousands of tickets are sold to non residents when the JP is really high.

Maybe, but Florida has the largest population of all Powerball states and has consistently had the highest number of sales, often breaking records. Then there are the millions who visit Orlando every year. The ticket was sold in Orlando, so it's possible a tourist visiting Disney World or Universal Studios. We'll find out soon enough.

I just noticed fja posted the state populations. Looking at the list, you can see that Florida has nearly 50% more people than #2 Pennsylvania.

my wife says anything involving a computer can be fixed,but i say the larger states win more because of the larger turnover of quickpicks.

When we joined (TN) We got a winner right away, with a year. 2-3 years later, we are lucky we smell a 5+0.

Yes, and ironically the winning ticket was bought very close (1-2 miles or less) to Universal Studios where the drawings take place.

TALLAHASSEE, FL -- The Florida Lottery on Sunday announced the first Powerball winner in Florida from Saturday night's drawing.

One lucky ticket matched all five numbers and the Powerball in the Oct. 3 drawing. The ticket was sold at the Sandlake Chevron Food Mart on West Sandlake Road in Orlando.

The winning ticket entitles the holder to the $189 million jackpot. The Florida Lottery retailer will receive a bonus incentive of $80,000 for selling the top-prize winning ticket.

Why? Florida often has record sales. There are over 18.2 million people living in FL (not to mention all the illegal immigrants) and it's a popular tourist destination too. Anyway, if it's random, why would it matter

Hey, ain't that weird, I pick 22 too (it's my age). And I did end up winning 12 dollars ($4 x 3) matching my age, and my mom's age for one of the white balls. Glad someone from my real home state finally won. Maybe it's someone I used to know.

I skipped PB tonight. I had some unexpected medical bills and I'm not working right now. Ironically, I usually pick 22 for the PB would have won at least $9.
