Think of all of the tickets sold to this day; if you play every drawing; your chance just got better; Keep playing the same numbers. After each drawing they are getting closer to your numbers.

No the odds of YOU winning are exactly the same as anybody anywhere else.

Think of it this way if somebody in your house buys 1 MegaMillion ticket the odds for somebody to win in your house is 1:175,000,000...

Maybe the answers could have been more clear, but you didn't understand them correctly. Your chances of winning anything of consequence are slim to none, but it's because the odds are against you (and everyone else), regardless of where you buy tickets. I played $5 last night too. I got 3 numbers in 3 different lines. (only 2 in Maddogs challenge). I have been playing since 2002. My biggest win was a 4+0 for $150.00. (accidental qp) so basically in 7 years I have had 1 month where I came out ahead.

I play to be in it. I like numbers and challenges that deal with numbers. My numbers have improved by playing maddogs challenges and watching what others are doing.

The statistic show that Washington, California, and Texas buy about 25% of the MM tickets and as fja pointed out, combined has won about 24% of the jackpots and a very reasonable proportion. On five QPs lines at best you can only get 25 of the 56 numbers so only matching 2 or 3 numbers is expected. The overall odds of winning something is 1 ticket out of every 40 tickets and if seven other players bought five QPs too, one of them probably won something.

Thanks for the post four4me.

It isn't that I think everybody that play will win as you stated. I am just at a lose as to how the larger population centers have a winners almost constantly. I have been playing PB for the last 6 years and played MM for the last 2 years. My confusion seems to be that while I mostly play QPs, it seems to me that the tickets that I get out here in Washington have yet to have more than 1 number per ticket.

Case in point, I had a $5 QP for last nights drawing and... [ More ]

Look at it this way most winning tickets are quick picks and whomever has the winning tickets is gonna win if you are a person who also selects his numbers than you have the same chance of winning as everyone else. Apparently you must think that everybody that plays is going to win at some point or another. Well it ain't going to happen the only people who win are the people who have a the winning numbers on their tickets. The same odds as everyone else. Nobody knows where the next winning ticke... First off, I in no way didn't like the answer that I got when I asked this question the first time, I just never felt that I had the answer explained fully.

If you check you'll see that west coast states have won 2.33 jackpots this year. Almost 24%...Its all in the stats.....25% of ticket sales/24% of the wins....

When the MM jackpot was $333 million, there were 3,661,221 tickets sold in Washington state. Without any duplicates those tickets represent only 2% the possible combinations and only 2.5% of all the tickets sold for that drawing. Combined the states of Texas, California, and Washington sold 39 million tickets or 25% of all the tickets sold for that drawing.

have you considered population distribution of East vs. West?

aside from CA and Texas, the east has way more states with population near or in the north of 10million.

im sure i can list the states for you, but i am at work and second, im feel lazy today hehe.

I realize that this may have been brought up before, but it still confuses me. Why is that that most of all jackpot winners for MM and PB seem to be in the East part of the USA? I have been plotting on Google Earth all the winners and it appears to me that 85% or more of the winners are in the eastern part of the country.
