At 11:59 PM they had 30,514 tickets left. Unless someone bought some tickets during the last 60 seconds they were available, the raffle is going to be out of nearly 970,000 tickets instead of 1,000,000.

So the odds of winning something are actually closer to 1:477 now instead of 1:492. And the odds of winning $1 million are 1:107,778 instead of 1:111,111.

Virginia's got a little over 114,000 left. with two days left. I got a couple from there and a couple from Fla. Think I might get another one in VA cuz it looks like better odds now if they don't sell out. They only had 330,000 to start with.

Tomorrow's the last day to buy tickets and there are still slightly over 100,000 left. Unless there is a last minute rush to get into the raffle, it doesn't look like they're going to sell out...but they'll come pretty close.

Michigan's website says their drawing will be on Jan 6th or after.

They have over 230,000 tickets left out of 600,000 so it's probably gonna be after.

They seem to have the best odds of winning a million though at 1 in 100,000.

This is my first time with the MI raffle so hoping for some better luck than in IL. Just curious what would happen if they dont sell out. That looking like a possibility unles there is a last minute rush. Figure they will try to hold off until they at least can pay all winners but don't know what the history is there.

With only a week left to the drawing, Virginia still has over half of it's raffle tickets unsold. That's over 175,000 tickets unsold as of last night.

That's sure gonna make the odds a whole lot better if it stays that way. I just might get a couple more tickets.

The Florida raffle has less than 250,000 tickets left as of right now. I am pretty surprised to see this, as only a few weeks ago it seemed like they weren't going to be anywhere close to selling all the tickets. Since I have vowed to put an end to gambling when 2009 is history, I figure I may as well attempt to buy one of the final 100,000 now that this is clearly going to sell out.

i try to buy the ones with the most left winnings i have a better chance playing the ones that many people don't buy they have to most money sitting on them or the ones that are ending if the stores have them usually they have money on them.....

Absolutely. Raffles have the best odds of any game to win $1 million, and I don't play big jackpot games to win the $1 prize.

Looks like the Florida raffle may actually come close to selling out now. Either you guys were right about people wanting to get their tickets in the middle, or their little drive to a district office for a free scratch off ploy has worked, as there was a surge in buying this week. I noticed how generous MI is to their players in the raffle. Most state take 50% of cut but there is a bigger payout to players over there. Probably why there been 14 of them already and about 4 a year. I am really jealous

By the way, I would go with the raffle. Better odds and look like they won't see out this year so even way better odds

Actually I'm saving up for one right now. (The Michigan Millionaire Raffle) I budget myself. I put two dollars into a pringles can every Monday. It's my savings account in my underwear drawer. I am going to either do that or buy a twenty dollar scratch-off. I'm actually leaning towards the scratch-off.

I live in Maryland but work in Virginia and actually commute through DC (long story), so I sometimes buy tickets from VA and rarely from DC. I have bought four VA Raffle tickets so far and agree that sales are very slow. They will pick up, but this could be the year they extend the deadline and drawing as they indicate they can.

If/when the economy fully recovers and the unemployment rate returns to its average (5% levels) they probably won't have as much trouble selling tickets, so I doubt this will be the last raffle. Too many gamblers in this state to do away with raffles. This was just poor timing.

I think this is the kind of thing that makes lottery directors nervous. It doesn't look good on the balance sheet and it can't be too good for job security. I hope we're not seeing the end of raffles here. I just might buy one more towards the end of the month.

I hope you're right Nino, that they keep the original drawing date and the same prizes. I just bought another VA raffle ticket today and they still have 267,600 to sell in the next 20 days. They've only sold 16,000 in the last week. It'll be interesting to see what happens. I can't see them sticking to schedule though if it's going to be a money loser for them. Do you? Think about it. If they go ahead with the drawing your chances of winning are greatly improved if they don't sell all the tickets.

Is the shine starting to come off of raffle. It wasn't too long ago that they couldn't print them out quick enough and there were multiple drawings a year and even heard reports of selling out after a week or so. Must be the bad economy and high ticket cost. They may need to consider lowering it to 10 buck or something in the future so they don't get stuck holding the bag.

That's cheesy. They offer a free $2 scratch off if you're willing to waste your gas to drive all the way to a district office. I think there are a whopping 8 of them in the state. And it's also unfair to individuals who bought raffle tickets last month, who received no incentives at all.

It doesn't really make much of a difference though, because I doubt they're going to sell all the tickets even with this little ploy.

They may be getting worried. They're offering anyone who brings in a raffle ticket to a district office purchased between now and the 24th a $2 scratch-off. Top prize is $20,000. Probably not the most enticing offer considering this particular scratch-off hasn't sold very well.

Also, if you spend $10 while you're there you get to spin a wheel for a $100 gas card, and other prizes.

They'll still hold the drawing on December 31st, but I can't imagine them keeping the prize amounts the same if they don't sell all the tickets. How could they? The total amount of money they were planning to pay out in total was $10,075,000...which would require 503,750 tickets to be sold in order to cover that amount in full. I think it's slowly picking up in sales, recoveryroad. I just got back from Fla. tonight. I bought one on the 23rd in Jacksonville and another one in Plantation on the 29th and the numbers were 90,937 apart so that's about 12,991 a day for the week. I think a lot of people like to buy the middle numbers so they're waiting and a lot are hemming and hawing about whether they want to get in or not. I'll bet it picks up real fast in December, especially towards the end of the month.

I cut out scratch-offs for a while and putting the money towards the raffle. I reeaally like the idea of starting out the year with $650K in my pocket.

Yes! It depends on the PRIZE and what it could mean for you personally. I just spent $100

on a raffle ticket that benefits THE FIRST TEE, and is 100% tax deductable. If I had won,

three of my closest golfing buddies and I would have flown to Pebble Beach, where we would have stayed for two or three nights and played three rounds of golf.

It doesn't look like too many people are willing to donate $20 to the raffle down here. Out of a million tickets, the Florida raffle has only sold 162,427 of as of this morning. The tickets have been on sale since November 13th (exactly 2 weeks). They're only selling a little over 10,000 tickets a day...though one day I recall they sold closer to 15,000.

The very next ticket could have easily been 50 numbers from your last ticket when the machine is printing your tickets other machines are also printing tickets there is a possibility you won't get sequential ticket numbers.

Imagine if you were in line and you let another guy go, and he got the raffle ticket. Then you got one immediately and saw his number was 99 and you were 100, then 99 won the million. Think he would reward you for your kind gesture? Doubtful. I got mine today plus 5 free bonus tickets, same as last year. Lucky Bucks in which I was shocked that I won a $1.00 out of 5 tickets.

I would like to clarify a point that I made about being 1 number off from winning a $100 prize. I should have written, if I had bought the very next ticket, I would have won that $100 prize in that game. It was that next ticket in sequence that won (which was 1 number off). In Pennsylvania, there are 500,000 tickets printed for the Millionaire Raffle. It is held twice a year. Here are the prizes:

Top Prize (4) $1,000,000 Odds 1:125,000

Second Prize (4) $100,000 Odds 1:125,000

Third Prize (100) $1000 Odds 1:5000

Fourth Prize (5892) $100 Odds 1:85

Kansas started their raffle about Oct 18th I think and only printed 150,000 raffle tickets and I haven't bought one yet at $20 but when I looked the other day there were only 20.000 tickets left probably less now. The winner of the $1Million and $500,000 have to go to Kansas Lottery HQ in Topeka. also there are some $500 prizes. BTW I voted yes

I would have to say no or probably not. I think my limit is $10 bucks for one ticket. We have a raffle going on here right now, and for the past couple of years, I have gotten some tickets, but I don't think I am going to purchase any this year. Twenty dollars, just seems too high of price for a ticket.

A. Buy me more copies of Mario Kart video game cassette or other old video games buy me multiple copies buy as much as i can so they last me a lifetime same thing with the console save the $20 until i get an extra $20 more and buy me more nintendo 64 consoles and controls as much as i can so they last me a lifetime...And some more to give away to friends, relatives, etc...

For Florida, the question is whether or not you think you can acquire one of the 2,034 winning tickets out of the million. From a statistical point of view, it sounds terrible to me no matter how you look at it...there's no way you can perform any type of analysis on a random raffle drawing since you can't really pick which number out of a million you'll get, and what the historical frequences are for each number being drawn out of a million in that raffle. I'm with you,

There's no way I would spend $20 on a California raffle ticket. I noticed how alot of the other states have the large tickets with cool jackpots like win for life and half a million dollars and such with pretty decent odds. California seems to find more ways to sell a prettier ticket that will generate more money for them but not the players with better odds. I have purchased the $5 raffle ticket in the past but never again.

The only draw back is the fact its more about timing then it is about opportunity. I can be one of 500 opportunities but if I am not at the right store at the right time, it changes the odds immensely, since its a generated numbered ticket .

I'm leaving for Florida tomorrow and I plan on buying a couple of their Raffle tickets while I'm there.

I know we've discussed this in a way but I wanted to get an idea on what the majority of players do given the opportunity.
