I know a little about pseudo random number generator algorithms and I know that they are anything but random but the real issue I have with computers for lottery draws is disclosure. It's easier to audit simple physics then it is to audit code. Just like seeing how a bicycle works versus how a car works, there's simply more transparency both literally and figuratively.

And the random you see regular balls is not random, is something was random it could spill 9 drawings all evens and it will still be random because you DONT KNOW what s coming next to me the lottery the way they are set up, ball drawing or computer is more of a trap than it is random...

I perfer ping pong balls for actual games. I use the computer to count for me--it makes less mistakes then tired eyes after a period of time.

i prefer computerized games any day...I think i am a small minority here in LP who likes computerized games...the idea that they can be manipulated is something i like very much...

The idea that balls are colliding and your ticket could had been up but because of a last minute: 2/300th of a second collision cause your number not to come up i cant grasp that idea...Sincerely it makes no difference to me but because of the fact that computerized can be manipulated i like the idea i think if you... I think my frustration lies in the fact that they don't need to shuffle tubes and do pretests under the guise of making sure the machines are working properly, in order to make tons of money off the unsuspecting public. The greed factor is too much for me to handle. It's hard enough to hit the p-3 straight or even worse, the p-4, that they don't need to throw in monkey wrenches on top of it all.

When I was living in New York, they used to publish the tube rotations, and then decided to stop. I wonder why....hmmmm. I personally agree with D_A, the randomness can be manipulated, intentional or unintentional with computers. The ball has a more truer randomness and the difference if any would be miniscule....

I think one of my main concerns would be the memory issues with computers printing out tickets being connected to those picking the winning numbers. Is there any correlation between the two regarding numbers printed out on tickets and winning numbers chosen, whether inadvertently or by design? I know it's possible by design but could it also be possible inadvertently?

I don't know if all computer states use multiple hard drives, but some do, so not only do they have pseudo randomness going on, they don't even have the same hard drives doing it all. Each is started with a different seed. The hard drives are chosen at random. It may take a week for hard drive A, B, C to be in play again. The computers are programmed with a seed. 95% of programmers aren't secretly sitting around devising plans to deceive the public. SORRY ! I don't think so.

Sure there are bad apples, but not all apples in every tree. So this issue of tampering is minimal and is taken care of.

The only issue I have with computers is if they pre-test and don't publish the numbers, just like the ball drawings. Other than that, I'm much more comfortable with computers.

Judging by the responses, the majority of voters do not like them because they can be manipulated. I am assuming we are talking about computer drawing for lottery numbers and if this be the case I do not have a preference.

The ball sets can be weighted or fixed also just like a computer can. Lets remember one thing, lotteries for the most part are administrated by state governments. I ask you has any kind of government been able to administor anything correctly?

Personally, I feel that the real problem lies within how some states split the draws between RNG and mechanical. This can create some very, very interesting results to say the least and really put one's system to a true test. Splitting the draws actually gives the state even more of an advantage due to an increase in randomness...and it goes completely unnoticed unless one has a hawkeye.

I stay away from them...and with good reason.

I never thought about it......do they do pretests on computerized games? Maybe to make sure the machine is working?

Although I wouldn't say that the games are manipulated, who's to say they couldn't be at some point.

I remember when DC switched to computers in 2004. I did not like the computerized drawings at all. I found it visually unappealing, and I preferred watching the balls flying around in the machines. That being said, I prefer drawings with balls.

Computers are not the problem, people that put information into them are. Garbage in, Garbage out.

I do however prefer the good old ping, pong balls even thou they can be Rigged also. I like to see before my eyes what's going on. No computer generated numbers can give you that feeling.

I personally working on computers for playing my Lotto games. They're much easier and faster to work with and I can print out my plays. It just takes too much time doing it through pen and paper. That's just my opinion.

the issue with them is trust

anyone can change a few lines of code, and hidden in it, errors or god forbid rigged code

their was a error with tn computors already making sure some numbers didnt even have a chance to hit

they resured us it never happen again, but i trust their computors as about as much as i trust election computors
