It certainly wouldn't hurt--because you never know when or where the winning lottery ticket will come from. Only you can determine if it is too much effort--For example on several occasions, I've taken a complimentary bus ride to one of the local indian casinos near San Diego which is about 2 hours away; I make a good day out of it, enjoying the ride. I have done that too. I took a work related trip to Idaho once and played the lottery there. When I came back, I had a layover in Denver and found a currency exchange stand that sold Lottery Tickets, so I bought some tickets there. The drawings weren't until the following Saturday and in the mean time, I bought tickets in my own state of Louisiana so in other words, I played the lottery in 3 states. Still didn't win anything though.

The other thing you can do is look for an excuse to drive to Georgia.

When I was visiting the University of Georgia for the first time, I decided to play the lottery in all the states that I passed through. I played in North and South Carolina, but not in Georgia, because I did not know where to find a retailer. That was also the year where I decided to give up checking lotto numbers for Lent - but not playing, because I wanted to play on February 29. I did - and won $40

I am about 40 miles from a state that allows for an anonymous claim of the lottery. My state and the border state have PB and MM. There i a game in the bordering state that has a game with better odds. It's a nice highway drive and I usually stop at this landmark to enjoy the scenery and collect my thoughts. I usually do advance draws, so about once a month I'll buy a ticket for MM and PB and the oher game.

Since California is being the single Powerball holdout, I would love to travel to play, but of course the closest state that has powerball is Arizona, and aside for it being silly to travel THAT far for a 1 in 175 million chance, I cant remember the last time I saw or heard of a powerball winner in AZ.

When I lived in Ohio I was only 25 miles from PA, 40 miles from WVA, and many times I drove there and bought tickets for games not available in Ohio; The Big Game, Powerball, Quinto, Raffle games, etc. But to answer your question, I never drove to other states for the purpose of playing the same games I could play in Ohio.

Now I live in Central Kentucky and though I miss playing Rolling Cash 5 and Ten Oh, I'm not driving for two or three hours just to play those games.

On weekends I travel all the time to SanJose ( Victor you live in lucky Santa Clara county and Sanjose is a lucky city) because alot of the winners come from there. But in my defense, so is the San Jose flea Market and my favorite Frys Electronics.

This makes sense to me. For a while I was driving to Oklahoma every five weeks for 10 Powerball draws. I'd go to a few different places near the state line and see some pretty country along the way. I'd go about 100 to 150 miles each way. I stopped at a casino the first time I went to Thackerville and found out I didn't want to go back, didn't like all the noise and lights. I played exactly one dollar on a penny slot and was up 450% at one point.

The Illinois lottery is pulling the cut the odds in half baloney with the posted odds for the Lotto.

The odds per line of winning a 6/52 jackpot are 1:20,358,520 but if you get two lines for a dollar then the odds per dollar spent are 1:10,179,260. Lotteries usually advertise their odds of winning per dollar spent if a dollar buys more than one line.

Right now the Loto is $6.5 million as you posted, but it starts at @ million and the progression is a real grind.

I think it's far better to play Powerball and the Powerplay hoping for 5 + 0.

Illinois Lotto $6,500,000 1:10 mil odds, Approx 4,550,000 cash, About 2,800,000 after max tax.

You can play 15 draws....

My benefit to playing in Illinois is that Illinois Taxes are much lower...

Before MegaMillions came to Ohio I would travel to Michigan for BigGame tickets and to Indiana for PowerBall tickets when their jackpots were $100M+. Ohio now has MM and PB so I no longer travel out of state for lottery tickets, now it's only for the joy of traveling.

I change the stores in my area that I buy lottery tickets but never travelled out of state just to bet. Of course when I go on vacation, I do bet the lottery there, even if they are the same games as in my state.

I also wouldn't drive two hours just to buy lottery tickets from a different state. I'd rather use the money to buy more tickets instead of spending it on gas driving to another state.

Yeah I used to live in Columbia, Sc and I would drive to Augusta once a month for tickets. I also had issues winning in SC.

Who cares what people think?

If you feel like thats the best thing for you to do to win then do it. Don't let anyones comments on here encourge or deter you from doing it. None of us can share the win with you so our opinion shouldn't matter.

I think it's a good idea if you have the time, you can afford it and you think it'd be fun to do. I've done it a number of times and I always pick up multi-draws in other states I travel to or through. The small winners can help pay for your gas to travel there again. It's also just a good excuse to see parts of other states you might not have otherwise traveled to or seen.

Who knows, Lady Luck might be waiting for you in another state.

Two hours is a bit much to drive to play the lottery. That's just my opinion.

Lucky for me, I'm in Missouri, and I m 5 minutes from Illinois. I was just thinking of driving across the bridge to play Illinois lottery for tonight.

But, I changed my mind, it's too late.

If you do drive 2 hours to play, you should bet a pick 3 number for 30 days, and hope it hits straight.

Since I am having no luck in SC on any of the drawings....I was thinking over driving 2 hours to the Georgia border to put in numbers for the next couple of weeks. You know for Cash 5, Pick 3 4, MegaMillions Powerball.

Has anyone here ever done that? Is that just being too deep into winning the lottery?
